Prospect United Methodist Church
Summer Worship @ Prospect
Memorial Day is in the rear-view-mirror. Another school year is in the books. Summer has arrived (even if the Spring rains haven’t yet abated). And many of you will be hitting the road on weekends throughout the summer months.
So…we’re gearing up for summer here at Prospect, too!
How? By moving our 525 Worship Service from Sunday mornings to Thursday evenings!
Why? We don’t want anyone to miss the opportunity to enjoy the Spirit-filled worship experience Prospect has to offer simply because of other weekend commitments.
What (is the plan)? Our 8:45 worship service will stay at 8:45. Kirsten Jones will continue to coordinate our accompanist schedule and special music for this service. We’ll still gets lots of Judy, Linda, Nancy and Ginger on the organ, piano and keyboard. We will also be blessed by the musical offerings of other members of the church and community, including the Strasma family at the 8:45 service. Our nursery will be fully staffed. Children will be dismissed to Kingdom Quest after the Young Prospectors’ Message. Youth Fuel, Adult Bible Studies and Soul Cafe will still be held at 9:45.
Only our late service will be moving to Thursday evenings.
5:25 Food and Fellowship - Everyone is invited to arrive at 5:25 for Dinner Church. A
meal/discussion/relationship building time before worship.
6:00 525 Worship - Our Praise Team will lead us into worship at 6:00 each Thursday.
7:00 Outreach and Fellowship - We are planning intentional opportunities to help us grow
closer together as a church family AND reach more members of the Dunlap community. Planned/Proposed activities include: prayer walks through the village, bike rides on the trail, Chief’s games, extended cookouts at the Central Park pavilion.
The Thursday evening 525 Worship service will be filled (we hope) with powerful worship and praise, intercessory prayer for one another, Kingdom Come testimonies and a shorter message.
Who? (i.e. Who are we praying for this change to bless?)
We are praying that the Thursday evening 525 Worship Service will become a viable option for those whose travel and activity schedules will keep them from getting to Prospect on Sunday mornings during the summer months.
We are also praying that a Thursday evening 525 Service can help us reach more members of the 61525 area code.
We are praying that this “mid-week worship fill-up” will become a both/and experience for many Prospect members, and that we will see many of the same faces on both Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings.
How (can you help)?
Come…join us and help us build Spirit-filled momentum.
Invite Others…to experience the Spirit-filled presence of worship with us.
Serve…“sponsor” or help prepare a meal; volunteer as a greeter, musician or in the
sound booth.
Pray…for a Galatians 5:25, Spirit-led, mindset to permeate our Thursday evenings and
all of our summer ministry activities at Prospect.
It’s a sun and Son filled day, friends. I think summer has arrived!

Treasurer's Report
Spring is here if you look at all the shades of green, the trees with leaves, and the many flowers. God is so good!
May has been a good month. Mary Martha sent a check for $1000.00 to Critttenten and their cookie sale netted $599.35 which will also go to mission. Thanks to all of you for making this a success. The youth fund raiser made $918.00 for their mission trip this summer. $637.00 was raised on One Great Hour of Sharing Sunday which was sent to the Conference.
The Mary Martha Circle hosted an evening with the Center for The Prevention of Abuse. This was enjoyed by all and Cory Campbell presented them a check for $1000.00 which was part of the mission budget. The Easter Brunch raised $364. Thanks for all that helped.
I read this quote from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, ”Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do." This is so true and as we face this summer we need to keep the church in our thoughts as our work here goes on. We do not take a break there is always needs to be met.
Have a great month, God Bless, Bonnie Mankle, Treasurer

PENTECOST WORSHIP CONCERT
"Fore the Lord" Golf Scramble
FUMC Peoria is hosting a Fundraiser and Fellowship Event on Monday, June 10th. The outing will feature a 12:30 shot-gun start at Washington's Pine Lakes Golf Club. The $80 registration fee includes golf with cart, boxed lunch, water, dinner, prizes and a chance to hear guest speaker, Rev. Dr. Steve Pichaske.

Highway Clean-up Needs your Help!!!
The good weather means that Highway Cleanup time is upon us. For all of you new members and friends, PUMC is responsible for cleaning Cedar Hills Dr. From Knoxville/Rt. 40 to Bland Rd. (See map below.)
We need 6-10 people meeting in the Banner School parking lot at 9:00 a.m. for approximately 1 hour on usually the last Saturday of the month. If there is a Sunday School class or family that would like to do it as a group but at a different time/day, that is great -- just get in touch with Lois Yoches (243-5062).
The county supplies the neon, reflective vests and trash bags; each person should bring working gloves and sturdy shoes. The cleanup works best if one person stays on the top portion of the ditch and one covers the lower part so no one has to walk up and down the steep ditch.
Next date is Saturday, June 29th! See you in the Banner School parking lot at 9:00 am!
Father’s Day Carnations are due June 9th!
In celebration of Father’s Day, June 16, 2019, all friends and members of Prospect are encouraged to help build the glorious bouquet.
Each carnation purchased at a cost of $1.00 will create the bouquet.
If you wish to order carnations, please download an order form from the link below. Copies will also be available in the gathering area on Sundays.
Last chance to order carnations is Sunday, June 9.
Dunlap Senior Center at Prospect UMC!
Located in church Fellowship Hall, the Senior Activity Center is open every Tuesday and Thursday (except for holidays) from 9:00am-3:00pm for men and women 50 years old and older.
The Senior Center provides a warm & free setting where you can meet people, join a card game, put together a puzzle, play Mexican Train dominoes, or just sit and chat with a cup of coffee.
Eventually they will also be offering classes such as easy exercise, line dancing, sewing, women's and men's crafts and other activities that may interest you.
Questions? Please email the coordinators at dunlapscac@gmail.com.
RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE @ PUMC
VOLUNTEER POSITION OPENING!!!
Blood Program Leader Volunteer: The Red Cross is looking for volunteers to help recruit donors for the upcoming June 28th drive. This would involve contacting and scheduling donors for appointments, as well as distributing promotional materials and looking for opportunities to recruit more donors to the drive. Our local Red Cross Account Manager will help you along the way. The Red Cross has found that drives often do much better when someone local and connected in the community works on recruitment rather than leaving it to general calling done by the Red Cross.
If you are interested in this volunteer position, please let Dani know!
SCHOOL SUPPLY COLLECTION
Backpack Sunday will arrive sooner than we think, and PUMC will again be collecting supplies for our local grade schools. Below is a list of the school supply list. We will once again be donating to Dunlap Grade School. Wilder -Waite has asked for donated Wal-Mart gift cards for students who need a change of clothes or clothing items. Unfortunately this has become a great need and usually teachers go and buy clothing items with their own personal money. If you are willing to get a Wal-Mart gift card or give money for this you can give to Corey Campbell or drop off in the office. Thank you!
SUKKAH IN JULY
Last year the Mission Team decided to change the SUKKAH to July-when our supplies are pretty low, because in November and December, more donations are received from the schools and local groups.
SUKKAH is set for Sunday, July 7th and Sunday, July 14th.
Donation lists will again be grouped by your LAST NAME initial.
You can view the lists below or pick up a copy in the gathering area!

PEACE WITH JUSTICE SUNDAY
PEACE WITH JUSTICE SUNDAY: June 16, 2019
TOGETHER, WE SPREAD THE GOSPEL OF PEACE AND ENCOURAGE COOPERATION LOCALLY, IN THE UNITED STATES AND GLOBALLY.
Your Giving Makes Possible the Proclamation of Christ’s Peace
Will you continue to support Peace with Justice Sunday? Will you empower local Christians—in Pennsylvania and Arizona and Liberia—to build the kingdom of peace that Jesus ushered in?
In Jesus’ inaugural address, standing in his home synagogue in Nazareth, he detailed his game plan,
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19)
Through your giving good news is proclaimed to—and experienced by—the poor.
ADULT MISSION TEAM BRUNCH FUNDRASIER

Thank you for your support! -Gloria & Nancy

SENIOR LUNCHEON: Meets on the last Tuesday of the month at Noon; potluck, open invitation
CAMILLA SMALL GROUP, Wednesday evenings @ 7:00 PM - Mary Pietreniak's house, women's group, open invitation. Small Group on Wednesday evenings will resume on Wednesday June 12, 2019 @ 7pm @ Mary Pietreniak’s house. We will be starting the book “Inspired” by Rachel Held Evans described as follows: Drawing on the best in recent scholarship and using her well-honed literary expertise, Evans examines some of our favorite Bible stories and possible interpretations, retelling them through memoir, original poetry, short stories, soliloquies, and even a short screenplay. Undaunted by the Bible’s most difficult passages, Evans wrestles through the process of doubting, imagining, and debating Scripture’s mysteries. The Bible, she discovers, is not a static work but is a living, breathing, captivating, and confounding book that is able to equip us to join God’s loving and redemptive work in the world.
DEEPER STILL 10:00 Sunday mornings - Conference room, open invitation

PROSPECT BOOK DISCUSSIONS
The next gathering will be at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 29, to talk about Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea by Barbara Demick. Award-winning journalist Demick follows the lives of six North Korean citizens over fifteen years—a chaotic period that saw the death of Kim Il-sung, the rise to power of his son Kim Jong-il (the father of Kim Jong-un), and a devastating famine that killed one-fifth of the population. North Korea is perhaps the most repressive regime today, and citizens there are kept ignorant of the rest of the world as they struggle to support their families.
We will also meet at 6:30 on Monday, September 23 to discuss a book to be announced later.
Our last 2019 gathering will be in November to discuss We Fed an Island: The True Story of Rebuilding Puerto Rico, One Meal at a Time by Jose Andres. Led by Chef Andres, a team of volunteers, including other chefs, fed hundreds of thousands in Puerto Rico after the terrible devastation of Hurricane Maria in the fall of 2017. Many of the Americans living on the island were without clean water, food, electricity, gas, and means of communication or travel. They were desperately in need of assistance in order to survive (and, sadly, many did not survive the hurricane and aftermath).
Questions? Suggestions for books to discuss? Contact Nancy Varness at hvarness@mchsi or call 309-274-8124.
CC NEWS:
Congregational Care would like to say thank you to everyone who helped make this years Easter Breakfast & DHS graduation meal successful. We served approximately 175 students which is a bit higher than last year. Several volunteers stated their “eyes were sweating” due to seeing so many joyful & polite youth being present for the breakfast.
Any questions? Please notify Mary Pietreniak 309-258-4941 or Camilla @ 309-264-3569
SOUL CAFE
We would just like to thank everyone who signs up to help with Soul Cafe, whether it be bringing treats/drinks or serving it is VERY appreciated. Many have truly been enjoying the fellowship in between the services!
