A Message from Dr. Bearden
I hope that you all had a great week and weekend!! There was a lot going on at SHE during the past week and a bunch of great things coming up! Summit Hill ES is a very special school, where staff, families, and community work together to create the best possible environment for our students! It is my pleasure to serve this community and to love/care for your children each and every day!
#SHEShines: I enjoy this job so much and love sharing activities with you all, which spotlights our students and/or SHE learning environments each week.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I am very thankful for my family, my friends, and a job which I love and enjoy! I am also humbled each day and thankful to work with the Summit Hill staff. Since opening in 1999, SHE has always been a special place for students, teachers, and our families. We are blessed in so many ways. We are a family and a great team for our students. As often as possible, I walk the halls and visit classrooms to experience a variety of high-quality learning environments. Each day, the majority of our teachers and staff give 110% to your children and I do not brag on or thank them enough! The approaching Thanksgiving season reminds me to work harder to let someone know that I am thankful for him or her! A simple compliment, card, or email goes a really long way for those who work so hard and find such joy in teaching/loving children! I hope that you will join me in personally thanking a SHE staff or teacher, who has made a difference for your child some time this week, month, or school year!! Enjoy your week!!
November 11th
Veterans Day, Monday: It was so great seeing all the staff and students, who were wearing red, white, and blue to honor all who serve to protect American freedoms. Mr. Simonton and the special areas teachers created a bulletin board to display the pictures we received for students. Thank you to all who sent pictures as it helped SHE to pay tribute to veterans in our community. FYI: any active duty military and first responders are always welcome to eat lunch at Summit Hill ES on any school day at no charge. Thank you for your service!
November 12th
Principal Chat: Parents, grandparents, staff, and community members learned more about Summit Hill ES and the recently released College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI) with Dr. Bearden. Her presentation helped SHE stakeholders to not only understand how the score is calculated, but also how the overall score of 82.0 and a 5-star climate rating is used to guide the instructional work and student support for the SHE staff. Dr. Bearden's Principal Chat presentation was recorded and will posted in next week's HH. Check back for the video.
TAG Presentations (5th Grade): Ms. Howard's and Herrington's TAG students wowed their parents with their projects and live presentations. Thank you to our TAG teachers and students for these "SHE-rrific" presentations.
School Governance Council Meeting: the SGC council welcomed Crabapple Crossing SGC chair, Brad Beckman. Mr. Beckman asked to attend the meeting as he wants to gain experiential knowledge from other northwest Fulton schools with high-quality councils and then bring that back to his SGC council. We were flattered and happy to have him visit. The next SGC meeting is December 10th @ 7 am in the PTO room. Any SHE community member is invited and welcomed to attend
November 13th:
#SHEShines Community Event: Business partners, realtors, and City of Milton leaders, including Mayor Joe Lockwood and City Council Members, Laura Bentley and Peyton Jamison, visited Summit Hill ES to hear and experience how and why SHE Shines. SHE student council members led the visitors on a short tour which spotlighted our staff and students. View SHE Shines Invitation Read SHE Shines Summary
Book Fair: The Scholastic Book Fair is officially underway and students/parents are welcome to attend until the end date of November 21st. Click here for SHE Online Book Orders
Art With Heart Spotlight: Mrs. Refaei's Art with Heart students were commissioned by Milton Mayor Lockwood to paint a portrait to hang in the Milton City Hall. At 3:30, Ms. Refaei, volunteer parents, students, and AP Burns visited the mayor at Milton City Hall and presented him with a beautiful horse and barn portrait, which was a joint student effort. The portrait hung in SHE the week before and is absolutely stunning! As well, Ms. Grant, SHE art teacher, often spotlights student work in the Milton City library. We hope that community members enjoy how SHEShines with artwork hanging in our beautiful Milton library and City Hall!
Bring a Buddy on November 14th & 15th: Thank you to the PTO for sponsoring our Bring a Buddy breakfast. I was attending a conference in Augusta and heard that it was well attended and lots of fun for the students and his/her Buddy. I hope that all, who attended, enjoyed the experience.
#SHEShares November: Nonperishable Food Drive for North Fulton Community Charities (NFCC): SHE is so proud of all of you who shared food to make Thanksgiving even more special for families in need. Our community brought in so much food that we had more food than crates to hold the food. At SHE when we Synergize really SHINE! It was a close contest… but the House of Unity won with 17 ½ crates of food for NFCC. The Friendship House was close behind with 16 ½ and the Creators right behind with 16 crates. However, we are all winners when we share with others! Fabulous job SHE students. If you are giving/helping/sharing with others this holiday season, please consider posting your picture(s) using #SHEShares and/or #SHEShines Let's give the Internet and/or social media trending posts which show kids being kind/respectful/helping/sharing/loving/etc. with others...with all!!

NEW INFORMATION for This Week's Hilltop Happenings
#SHEShares: SHE students and staff community service opportunities.
November:
Nonperishable Food Drive for North Fulton Family Charities: Students in all 3 Houses are encouraged to bring in nonperishable food items. North Fulton Family Charities, located in Roswell, is a member of our community and provides a great deal of needed to support for many of the families in the Roswell, Alpharetta, and Milton Communities! Each year, we participate in their nonperishable food drive as they prepare for the Holidays. If your family is also passionate about community service, I would encourage you to call NFCC and volunteer as a family. There are always jobs available such as: Food Pantry organization, Thrift Shop organization, and Donation organization. Once you make your appointment, there is a quick orientation with NFCC staff, and then an hour (or more) of much needed help to clean, sort, organize, hang, help, etc. Our staff volunteers each year and I hope that your family can spare a few nonperishable items (or time at NFCC) to help out with their busiest season of each year!
