BWRSD Community Update 5/28/21
Message from Jonathan Brice, Superintendent of Schools
Dear BWRSD community,
Memorial Day weekend is always a great weekend for me. It is a time when I think about the joys of past summers and look forward to the possibility of fun and excitement during the next three months. It also causes me to think about the true meaning of Memorial Day, a day to honor and reflect on the brave men and women who as Abraham Lincoln in the Gettysburg address said, “...gave the last full measure of devotion.”
I am thankful for the sacrifices made by so many so I can pursue life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I will reflect on this on Monday.
Jonathan Brice, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools

3. ELA Curriculum Update for Grades K-8
The Bristol Warren Regional Schools have recently completed the pilot of a new English Language Arts curriculum at the elementary level. Teachers and students look forward to a program that offers a variety of literature and engaging experiences. This adoption is part of a statewide initiative requiring all districts to select programs and teaching practices that are research-based to ensure high-quality instruction and achievement for all students.
After several pilots were conducted in 2019-2021 by BWRSD teachers, the ELA Advisory Team is ready to request the approval of Into Reading for Grades K-5 and StudySync for Grades 6-8. These programs will provide teachers and students with rigorous lessons, literature, and learning experiences aligned to the state standards and learning expectations. Copies of the materials will be available at the Oliver building beginning June 1st.
4. 2021-2022 Kindergarten Registration and Screening
BWRSD continues to welcome families of kindergarten age students to register for the upcoming school year. Visit our website or call our registration office at 401-253-4000 ext. 5127 to begin the process.
Families who have registered their children will be receiving information on upcoming screenings for their students. We are planning to hold screenings in person, with appropriate COVID precautions, on June 18, 19 and 21, 2021. An email will be sent out to these families with more information and a link to sign up for a time slot on one of the three days.
