Truman Elementary

Game On!

Hello Truman Families!

It has been a great week of in-person learning! Hopefully things are going smoothly for our families that remain virtual as well!

It's Fri-YAY, and today I wanted to compliment all our students for doing a great job practicing safety procedures. Our fire drill this morning was super-successful, and students followed all expectations as they exited the building quickly and quietly. At Truman, one of our BLAZE letters stands for "Be Safe," and all our students certainly used safe behaviors!

Along those same safety lines, we are so impressed with the way students are remembering to wear masks and to use social distancing! AND THANK YOU PARENTS, for following safe arrival and dismissal procedures...mornings and afternoons have gone well this week.

When Truman Eyes are Smiling...

Even though we can't always see behind the mask, we see the sparkle in those precious eyes! Lot's of smiling eyes this week!

Friday Update

Here is the COVID-19 communication message from the district:

As a reminder, we provide weekly updates regarding the status of in-person instruction. Each Monday, a forecast for the following week is provided. Each Friday, after Oklahoma’s Covid-19 Alert System is updated, we confirm the following week’s instructional plan. These updates are applicable only to those students who are enrolled in the traditional/remote or blended learning options. Students enrolled in the full-time virtual option will not be affected.

The Covid-19 Alert System was developed by the Oklahoma State Department of Health and has been adopted by the Oklahoma Department of Education. The alert system does not differentiate between Orange Level 1 and 2. However, according to the Oklahoma Department of Education, Orange Level 1 is defined as more than 14.39 but fewer than 25 cases per 100,000 people, while Orange Level 2 is defined as more than 25 but fewer than 50 cases per 100,000 people.

  • ELEMENTARY STUDENTS: The current status of Cleveland County is Orange 1. Elementary students enrolled in either our traditional/remote or blended learning options will continue to report to school for in-person instruction on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Schools are closed Monday, Sept. 7, due to Labor Day.

  • MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: The current status of Cleveland County is Orange 1.Middle and high school students who are enrolled in traditional/remote or blended learning options report to school on an alternate schedule that begins Tuesday, Sept. 8. Monday, Sept. 7, is Labor Day and there is no school. Click here for information about alternate schedules. School principals have shared detailed information about alternate schedules and student group assignments with students and parents.

Nutrition Update: We are delighted to share that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has granted several flexibilities that allow the continuation of free student lunch programs. This means that school breakfasts and lunches will be free to anyone 18-years-old or younger effective Sept. 1, through Dec. 31, or until funds for the program are depleted. Students who were charged for meals on or after Sept. 1, will be eligible for a refund to their accounts and more information will be provided when it is available. Meal service for students enrolled in traditional/remote learning will remain the same. To adhere to record-keeping guidelines students will still ring up their lunch as normal, but there will be no charge or cost. For more information, visit

Curriculum Highlights

Classroom teachers should be reaching out regarding virtual curriculum meetings! We typically have a "Curriculum Night" at Truman, where families come up and learn about core subjects and unique classroom facts! This is not a typical year, so teachers are scheduling a virtual opportunity for parents and guardians to hear about classroom specifics. The date and time for these virtual meetings will be scheduled by the teacher, and this should happen by September 15. Hope you take advantage of this chance to learn more about our great school and amazing teachers!
