KIA ORA WHANAU, FROM MR O
Term 2 holds lots of activities as well as a focus on improving individual academic outcomes. This term we are again visited by Harold and the Life Education teachers, we have mid-year progress reports and our Senior students play their traditional inter-school sports exchanges. It will be another busy term! Please make sure you read the calendar below and put some of these dates in your diary.
The classes have been very busy this week straight into learning! The Paetoki team have been doing their inquiry around Food and Nutrition with visits to the supermarket. The Huatoki team have begun some awesome STEM activities with a focus around fire safety and our Taranaki team classes are doing their own individual class inquiries for the first 3 weeks of the term.
Next week we have our Class Rep leaders off to Palmerston North to join other leaders from primary schools in the Central North Island for the Young Leaders Day. This is a great conference for our leaders and they get a lot of ideas from this day. We also have our first Interschool sports games against Central School at Vogeltown. This sports exchange has become the traditional 'Carrington Cup' - we hope to secure this mighty trophy this year!
A few reminders from the leadership team:
- Please be courteous when parking around the school entranceways
- A reminder to scan the Covid-19 QR code when entering the school sites
- Please let the office know if your child is going to be away.
We are looking forward to another awesome term!

VOGELTOWN LEARNERS CORNER
In autumn, I like rolling in the leaves.
They go crack, crackle, crunch.
I play hide and seek. I hide in the leaves and scare my friends. BOO!
Once at my school it snowed - okay back to the leaf situation.
When leaves go crackle, crackle, the days are shorter too.
By Jipsey
Room 3
It is autumn.
When the sun shines on the leaves it makes chlorophyll and when the sun goes away, the chlorophyll goes out of the leaf. That’s why the leaf falls down.
And it gets cold in the mornings.
By Kahleesi
Room 3
In autumn the leaves fall off the trees.
In autumn we have to put warm clothes on.
The leaves change colours; yellow and orange and brown and red leaves.
The days get shorter.

VOGELTOWN HOME AND SCHOOL
Welcome back to Term 2 for 2021.
Our big fundraiser this term is going to be the 'Mathathon'. The information for the Mathathon will be coming home on the 17th May.
Basically, the Mathathon requires each Vogeltown learner to learn a list of basic facts that is at their mathematic level. They then seek sponsorship from friends, family to see if they can get sponsored per basic fact and see how many they get right on 'test day'.
The other fundraiser we have is the Quiz night. This is in the last week of term and held at the Good Home in town. More information will be coming home over the term, but pencil in the 6th July and start getting your 'clever' friends together for a team!
Our next meeting is on the 25th May. This will be our AGM. We are looking for a new Chairperson and Treasurer. We would love to see some new faces to our committee - please come along. Mr George and Mr Ogle will make you a coffee on the night!
VS Home and School team.
