Curriculum Mapping
2018-2019 School Year
What are we doing this year in regards to Curriculum Mapping?
This year, department heads will be scheduling their department curriculum meetings. Please schedule that meeting in the first quarter if possible.
The typical topics at a curriculum meeting are:
Review of “Master Maps”--Send changes to Mrs. Breeding. You can view Master Maps when looking at "School Maps." Look for Mrs. Breeding's name in the list.
Review of Standardized Testing results-- Please let Mrs. Piraino know the date of your curriculum meeting in advance so that she can provide you with the latest testing results--Pre-ACT, Pre-PSAT, PSAT, and ACT. She will also have Terra Nova test results and booklets; however, if you want to view testing booklets, she will need to attend your meeting as those booklets cannot leave her possession. OR, you can schedule a time to come to Mrs. Piraino's office (especially if you are the only 7th or 8th grade teacher in your department) before your meeting to gather data.
Review of Standardized Test Standards if available for planning purposes.
Here are some additional ideas of what you can cover in a curriculum meeting:
Some content looks the same at each grade level, BUT the expectations for each grade level differs. Is this reflected in the maps?
Assessments should be clear and show a gradual progression in difficulty from one grade level to the next. Is this evident?
What do we really want and need to know when we assess student learning with classroom assessments?

Basic application
Strategic thinking
- Critical or extended thinking
- Areas of deficit / concern from standardized testing results and review of curriculum maps
- Areas of success
- Ideas for any necessary curriculum change and why
One teacher will need to take notes during the curriculum meeting and send a copy to Mrs. Wolfe.
Final Notes: You will receive reminders occasionally to update your maps throughout the school year. It is recommended that you create a reminder or schedule dates each month to work on needed revisions. Please make sure your maps reflect what is actually covered in the classroom. As technology and resources change, please include those changes in your maps.
