4th Grade Spelling Bee Results
Congratulations to our 4th Grade 2022 Pickerington Elementary Spelling Bee participants!
Evan C. won after 13 rounds by correctly spelling the word "scrawny."
Olivia S. is our runner-up.
Evan will take an online qualification test in mid-February for a possible invitation to the regional spelling bee at Ohio University in March.
All 16 spellers earned GRRR stripes for their classroom pennants. They showed "Grit" by persevering through each competition round as the words became more challenging. They were "Respectful" to other participants and our bee officials, Ms. Westwood, Mr. Smith, Mrs. Smith, and Ms. Woodward. They were "Responsible" for following the spelling bee rules. Finally, they all showed how "Ready" they were for the bee by studying the word lists for several weeks. We are proud of you!
Level UP initiative! ๐ฎ โฌ๏ธ
Be on the lookout for how you can help at home because we all know this can be overwhelming at times. For now, keep encouraging your students to use their best effort at school, continue to complete their iReady lessons (on their own of course), and make sure they are not spending too much time on their device working on iReady...moderation is important. iReady suggests 45 minutes a week for a reason....burnout is real.
We cannot succeed without our families' support! Thank you for all you do to help your student(s) level up! this initiative will help us score better on our state report card and help us achieve our building goals. Check them out below!

๐ Drop off/Pick up/Early dismissal reminders ๐
Please review:
These protocols are in place to keep your child safe and our school day on time. Please be mindful of them when dropping off/picking up your student. My hope is that you, the families, take the time to review these protocols to ensure the safety and learning of our students.
Drop off:
- Students should not be dropped off at the front of the building before 9:15 am. You must use the parent pick-up line if you are choosing to drive your student to school.
- Walking families, please do not have your student arrive before 9:05 am, we have no one supervising until 9:05 am. Too many students arrive and stand outside (even with freezing temps) waiting to come into the building at 9:05 am.
- If you are driving your student to school you MUST get in the parent drop-off line regardless of your normal routine.
- If you come after 9:15 am, you will need to come to the front of the building and sign your student in. Please do NOT drop your students off and have them walk up by themselves, you need to sign them in.
- If our teachers on drop-off duty shut the door as you are pulling up, please understand that they are not being rude, but rather following our protocols. They have students to instruct starting at 9:15 am.
Pick-Up:
- Students should not be picked up from the office between 3:45 pm and 4:15 pm. The buses need the bus lane clear and open to pull up.
- If you are changing how your student gets home you must send in a note (email, handwritten, phonecall) describing the change. Too often students claim they are parent pick up just to have no one come and get them. No note means we will proceed as usual.
- When you use the pick-up line, please keep your hanging sign visible until your student enters your vehicle. This will help our teachers direct your student to the proper vehicle
Early Dismissal and End of day changes:
- All changes or early dismissal need to be communicated to our office staff by 3:30 pm
Thank you!
I truly do appreciate all that you do for your students. Thank you to those who consistently follow the protocols to keep the lines moving..only turning right at the "short-cut" exit, having your student ready to hop out of the car and head into the building, and those that wave to me, Mr. Z, when I am out and about during these times.

NEWS FROM THE NURSE
STAY HOME WHEN FEELING ILL AND/OR EXHIBITING SYMPTOMS
We are seeing an increasing number of students coming to school with symptoms such as a cough, headache, sore throat, cold symptoms, ear ache, fever, stomach issues, etc. It is VITAL that you keep your child home if he/she is feeling ill or exhibiting symptoms of an illness to help us prevent the spread of ALL illnesses in our classrooms. We need everyone's help to keep our students healthy.
Also, just a reminder that you should not send medications to school with your child. Students are not permitted to carry over the counter or prescription medications in their book bag. If your child needs medication during the school day please complete the corresponding form and bring the medication to the school. Thank you for your cooperation.

COVID-19 HOME TEST KITS
Please see the following guidance for at home Covid-19 test kits:
BinaxNow Antigen Card or Ag Card (these tests are given out by schools, libraries, churches, other places too)
Require an app to be downloaded and to be done in conjunction with a telehealth visit.
When done properly with the telehealth visit, this can be accepted as a positive test at school. Or if negative, when tested between days 5 and 7, can be accepted to end quarantine on day 8.
These results should come up in the app, and a screenshot can be sent to the School Nurse.
If the test is not completed with telehealth (we see this is if someone doesnโt download the app, just tests themselves) we cannot accept these results (positive or negative) as they were not proctored in the manner in which they were intended/approved.
Self Tests (BinaxNow Self Test, Ellume or some other brands)
Available over the counter at places like CVS or Walgreens where there is no app to be downloaded or telehealth visit component
Cannot be accepted as a negative for someone who is trying to end their quarantine after day 7. The packing inserts indicate that they are not designed for that type of situation where a proof of negative is required
If they were to test positive using one of these tests, please contact your Health Care Provider.
