New Norway School

June 2023

Creating a Culture of Excellence!!

June has arrived and we are approaching the finish line!

As my first year here at New Norway School seems to have flown by, I want to say thank you to everyone for working with us this year. Thank you to the entire staff at New Norway School for their exceptional work and expertise in working with our students. Thank you to our Parent Council for working so hard to ensure so many positive experiences and organizing our yummy hot lunches for our New Norway students. Thank you to our community coaches and many parent volunteers that helped with all our teams and outings. To all our Spartan families, your support and care has been felt and very much appreciated. It truly does take a village to raise our students .

As we look ahead to the 2023-2024 we do have a few staff changes ahead, due to staff moving on from our Spartan Family. We would like to welcome back Mrs. Haley King who will be returning to us as next years Grade 6 homeroom teacher, Ms. Melissa Skuce will be joining us as our High School English and foods teacher, Ms Allyson Hamilton will be in for Ms. Berg as she starts her maternity leave and Miss Sydney Cava will be back with us as our SR Athletic Director /some JR high wellness and various elementary courses. As we say goodbye to Mr. Anderson, Ms. Read and Mrs. Kellgren we wish them all the best on their next adventure ahead. Always remember once a Spartan, Always a Spartan!

In my survey I sent earlier this year it was a high priority for our New Norway Parent population to have separate Literacy and numeracy in div 1 classes. I am excited to share that I was able to secure staffing for our grade 1 and grade 2 to have separate literacy and numeracy classes for the 23/24 school year. The grade 1/2 class will be combined for their Science, Social, Art, Wellness and music.

Below in our newsletter you will find the 2023-2024 New Norway School bell times as well as BRSD 2023-2024 school calendar.

Have a safe summer! See you all in the fall.

BRACE Update for Shared Students:

It is hard to believe we are entering our final month of the year! Students, you should be well on your way to completing your courses. Remember to return your textbooks for BRACE courses to your Learning Commons once you have finished with them! We have very much enjoyed having you as part of our programming this year.

Please be aware that if you plan to take any courses with BRACE next year, go through your school office. They will provide you the Registration and parent Acknowledgement Form you will require to take a class through BRACE. These will be available for September, if not before.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school at 780-672-2205 or email your teachers.

Our 2023 Graduates

Congratulations to our graduating class of 2023! The time has come to send you off into the world, and we are so proud of each and every one of you! From the teachers at New Norway School, we know you'll all do amazing out there and we wish you the best on your future endeavours!

Nordegg Camping Trip

"We go back to the mountains because in the mountains, we must face up to the challenge of nature and test all of our powers or find ourselves whole" - Anonymous.

During the trip to Nordegg, our junior high spartans tested their abilities, conquered challenges and over-came the hot sunny day. They were strong, emerging from the ground and rising up towards the sky just as the mountains have to reach the top! The best view comes after the hardest climb.

Track & Field Provincials

We held a pep rally for our Spartans to send them off to the 2023 ASAA Track and Field Provincial Championships at Foote Field in Edmonton! Rick Vanderwoude earned 5th in the province in the long jump and Ariana Lundstrom earned 5th in discus! Way to go Spartans!
