MES Family Newsletter

This week was filled with Kindergarten Color Week, celebrating a special third grader on #LukeStrong Day, math and reading growth assessments in grades 3-5, and lots of meaningful learning!

September 12-October 4: MES FALL Virginia Diner and Chocolates SCHOOL FUNDRAISER! Our students are doing an AMAZING job of selling!!! All proceeds will go toward purchasing mulch for our playgrounds and projects that support our students' learning. If your child needs additional forms for Kung Fu critters and the stuffed hamster drawing, please let the office know!

The LAST day to order a fall school t-shirt is TOMORROW! Please see the information below!

Join us for Lunch!: We welcome family members to come and eat lunch with their children! Please send a note to the office to inform them that you will be having lunch and also let them know if you plan to buy lunch from the cafeteria ($3.75). When enjoying lunch with your child, you may invite ONE other student from the same class to have lunch with your child. We have two tables set up in the cafeteria and picnic tables out front on the lawn!

Please make sure you have followed our MES School Facebook Page! The link is below and is also included further down in this newsletter!

If you have any questions about the information in this newsletter, please call our office at (540) 289-3004. We are happy to help you!

MES PAW Patrollers!

This year, we are excited to start a new program at MES: PAW Patrollers. This program will begin on Monday, September 26th! A parent/guardian can sign up to be a PAW Patroller once per month from 11 am-2:30 pm. PAW Patrollers serve in various volunteer capacities to support our students! The PAW Patrollers schedule is below:

11:00-1:00: Volunteer in the cafeteria for all lunch shifts (PAW Patrollers are encouraged to have lunch with their child/children during their lunchtimes!)

1:00-2:30: Follow your child's schedule as a classroom volunteer. This may include attending specials/recess with your child!

If you want to learn more about signing up as a PAW Patroller, please contact Ms. Mitchell, our school counselor.

We love to recognize all of the positive things we see our students do here at MES! One way that we do this is through the PAW Award. Any teacher or staff member can nominate a student for this award. When a student is nominated, Ms. Kapuchuck makes a positive phone call home with the student and the student picks out a book from the MES book vending machine! Their picture and Paw Award are also posted in our school!

I am so excited to continue the Paw Awards again this year!

MES Fall T-Shirt Sales!

MES is selling FALL T-shirts again this year! Forms were sent home with students at Meet the Teacher night as well as on the first day of school. If you would like to order a shirt, please complete the order form and submit the form and payment to MES! If you need an additional form, please call the office and we will be happy to send one home! All order forms with payment are due Monday, September 19th!!

Library/Media Center News from Ms. Breeden!

Parents, did you know that there is a way that you can help your child put books on hold at our library from home? There is also a way that you can see what books your child currently has checked out and what they’ve checked out in the past. Please click on the video link below and watch the Destiny Discover Tutorial to see how you can do that!

MES has an active school Facebook page and this is where you can find important, accurate, up-to-date information throughout the year! Please click below to follow us!

If you need to contact the office regarding your child's attendance, please call the school at 540-289-3004 or email the school at before 8:30 am. Please include the following information in your email:

1. Student Name

2. Teacher Name

3. Reason for Absence

4. The name of the person submitting the email

You can also use this email address to send Dr. notes!

Transportation Changes- Important!

Any same-day transportation changes during the school year must occur before 1:30pm. Please make sure these are taken care of through the office, rather than contacting the teacher, so that we can ensure your child gets home safely! Often, teachers do not have time to check messages and email during the day, so it is important that these changes are communicated to the office. The office will take care of making sure teachers know of the transportation changes.
