Halloween
Dear Shimek Families:
It has been a tradition for many ICCSD students to wear appropriate costumes during school Halloween Parades. This year, it is our intention to maintain the positive and fun spirit of this event. While students are not required to wear costumes on Halloween, those students who do wish to participate are reminded of the following three guidelines:
- Costumes may not mock another student, faculty member, race, religion or lifestyle preference. (For example, some Native American costumes sold at stores could trivialize/mock sacred tradition.)
- Costume accessories that are deemed dangerous or similar to weaponry are not permitted. (For example, bringing a toy gun as part of a Star Wars costume could violate district policy.)
- Please keep in mind that our parade is for students in grades Kindergarten through Sixth - please be sensitive to what might be frightening to any of our age groups here at Shimek. If your costume has an 'extra' scary feature or weaponry, for example, please save those items for use outside of the Parade. (For example, a mask that incorporates a lot of blood/gore could scare some of our younger students.)
Please understand that these guidelines are put in place to ensure the safety of all our students. If a student’s costume, or part of the costume, is found to be inappropriate, she/he will be asked to remove the costume.
Each year, our students display some of the most well designed costumes that require a lot of thought and planning. This year should be no different. We look forward to seeing the creativity of our students on October 31st. For parents and family members wishing to observe the parade, we will plan to have classes making their way to the upper blacktop area at 1:15pm for the parade. As always, we thank you for your help and support in making this a fun event for our children!
Sincerely, Chris Pisarik

Support the Shimek PTO Using Amazon Smile
Did you know Amazon will donate 0.5% of all of your Amazon purchases to a charitable organization of your choice? To ensure that the Shimek PTO is able to sustain long-term support for our students, we hope you will consider enrolling in Amazon Smile to easily raise funds for the school without any out of pocket costs to you. Here’s the steps to do it:
Visit smile.amazon.com and search for “Bohumil Shimek”
Select “Bohumil Shimek Elementary Parent Teacher Organization Inc”
Agree to use smile.amazon.com to make all of your purchases. Shimek PTO will not receive the Amazon donation if you go through the normal amazon.com or Amazon app.
If you make purchases on your computer, visit smile.amazon.com every time you make a purchase using your same Amazon login.
If you make purchases on a cell phone app, you will need to use the web browser instead. Review the following instructions to make it easy (note that the following tutorial uses smile.amazon.co.uk in step 2 but you will need to use smile.amazon.com.

The district will also be considering applicants for the 2020-21 school year.
To participate in the event please complete the following:
Apply online at https://iowacity.tedk12.com/hire/index.aspx
