Principal's Message
Dear Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion families,
Thanksgiving is the time to connect with family and friends(safely of course!), enjoy lots of good food, and also to reflect on the many things for which we are thankful and grateful. I am thankful for all of our students who try their best to learn every day-- even with masks on. Our students give us all a daily reminder about what is really important in this world and why we do what we do. I am thankful for our parents and families who have created a supportive partnership between the home and the school. I am thankful for all of our staff and community partners at Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion School; they truly care about students and have everyone's best interests at heart. I would like to wish each of you and your families a happy, healthy, safe and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday.
TK/Kindergarten 2022/23 Registration/School of Choice is open!
Incredibly, we are already recruiting for our incoming Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten classes for the 2022 school year. We are holding weekly Orientation meetings via Zoom on Fridays at 9:00am for interested new families. A reminder that the district does give preference and priority to siblings of our current students(or siblings of current Kennedy Spanish Immersion students). If you have a TK or Kinder child that is going to attend our school in August, 2022 please fill out the K Sibling Form by January 11th so you can get priority in the selection process. Current TK students and students in PreSchool CDC at our school also have priority acceptance for next year in Kindergarten. However, All families still need to fill out the registration form for the district to their "Home School"(as determined by your address) and then need to fill out the district School of Choice form indicating Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion School as your first choice by the deadline. The first round of School of Choice closes on January 14th. Families will start being notified if they are accepted by February 4th.
We’ll Soon Welcome Volunteers Back to our School
We’re excited to share that the special folks who make a big difference in our school will soon be able to start spending a school day with us again. On Wednesday, November 10, our School Board agreed that it’s time for our volunteers and partners to rejoin us at school. All volunteers -- parents, community members, and organizations -- will be able to start volunteering again starting on November 29.
Volunteers will need to follow this process with the district’s Department of Human Resources. This includes both returning and new volunteers. The department of human resources will contact each volunteer once they are cleared to start volunteering. If you’re not able to fill out the documents online, come by our office as we have print copies available. A new requirement is that all volunteers will need to be fully vaccinated.
We know that it’s been a bit of a wait, but we appreciate the understanding as our district was working to keep all of us safe following public health guidelines.
We’re excited to have you back!
COVID 19 Vaccination Events:
A number of our students have already received the first vaccination. RCSD families have several options for vaccinating their children in San Mateo County, which include healthcare providers, pharmacies, and other county and community clinics. Families are also encouraged to visit the San Mateo County Health website for vaccination events throughout the County. The San Mateo County Office of Education has also compiled this list of upcoming vaccination opportunities. The San Mateo County Office of Education (SMCOE) hosted a webinar with San Mateo County Health addressing the latest COVID-19 community trends, strategies for safe schools, and vaccination updates. The event helped parents with answers to questions they may have had about the vaccination. Other resources for parents include tips from Johns Hopkins Medicine and a series of flyers from the San Mateo County Office of Education that share some of the reasons for children and youth to be vaccinated as well as myths and facts about the vaccine.
RCSD Panorama Climate Survey
The District Panomara Climate Survey will be administered twice this year to students in 3rd-8th grades, parents, and staff. Parents please complete this family climate survey prior to November 19th(deadline has been extended).
