URCEO Family Newsletter
January 15, 2021
Dear Families,
Over the last two weeks, the district has been preparing for how to resume in-person instruction in our school buildings beginning Monday, January 25, which is the start of the new grading term. At URCEO, this means that we've been discussing what it will look like for our virtual students, secondary opportunity students, and GED opportunity students. You received a survey tailored to your child's program at URCEO seeking your input on our planning. Thank you to all who completed the form or answered our call to collect your preferences and needs.
EPSD9 Leadership has attempted to communicate with our families in a variety of formats. Most recently, Superintendent Kovach shared this report with the school board. Additionally, the FAQ webpage is updated with community questions and leadership's answers related to reopening and can be accessed here.
Below, I share what this transition will look like for our various programs in the school. I am also sharing further down in this newsletter a Questions and Response section so that you have a means for getting school-specific concerns addressed.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Green
Virtual Opportunity Students
- Our 6-12 grade classes will be adjusting SynchMeet times in the second semester to accommodate our adjusted building schedule, which must coordinate with transportation. These changes will be posted in all classes and shared via email as well.
- Our K-5 classes will continue uninterrupted by the return to in-person instruction in the URCEO building.
- There are a couple of system changes to note:
Meals
Families that picked-up meals at EPSD9 sites will be invited to place a weekly food order that is delivered to URCEO on Wednesdays. Families will need to complete an order form by noon on Fridays in order to have a kit for pick-up on Wednesdays. The Food Service department is developing the form that we will send out ASAP.
- The first order must be placed by noon Friday, Jan., 22
- The first 7-day meal kit pick-up will be Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021 at 129 S. Platt in Eagle Point.
Learning Lounge
Due to space and safety concerns, we are asking families to "reserve" time in the Learning Lounge rather than dropping in beginning Monday, January 25th. This allows us to ensure that necessary social distancing can be in place. RESERVATION FORM
Secondary Opportunity Students
URCEO Secondary Opportunity students are returning to in-person instruction beginning Monday, January 25th. Here are the details that are pinned down:
- Students will be assigned to either the AM or PM cohort. We will be sharing those assignments with families by Wednesday, Jan. 20th.
- Breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals will be provided to both cohorts. AM students can eat breakfast on campus and will take home a lunch and dinner kit. PM students can eat lunch on campus and will take home a dinner and breakfast kit.
- We are waiting for transportation details to be confirmed. Bus riders will receive notification for pick-up time and location in a separate communication.
- Students will attend MANDATORY in-person sessions four days a week: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
- Wednesday will be optional in-person with mandatory virtual check-in (independent, applied learning). Meals will need to be ordered in advance for Wednesdays. Details will be shared with students on the 25th.
We have attempted to survey and call all Secondary Opportunity families about returning to in-person instruction. If you have not responded, you can complete the survey now:
GED Program
Students that commit to attendance will have meals on-site and for take home. We will not be able to guarantee meals for drop-ins; although we will have open door support hours for our GED students as long as we can offer in-person instruction. If you reside on an EPSD9 bus route, transportation is available. Let us know you are interested by completing this form ASAP.
Additionally, we will be offering a mentoring program to GED students that will take place on campus once a week. Details will be shared in the GED Canvas group and by email.
