Creation of a National Bank

Thomas Jefferson and James Madison created the House of Representatives. The Democratic-Republicans were against the national bank because they thought it was unconstitutional. The Democratic- Republicans balance the federal with states policy.

French Revolution

The Democratic-Republicans opposed the treaty of Jay. Then the French Revolution began they supported it at first until Napoleon became dictator after 1799.

Power of the National Government

The Federalist had more power in the National Government and created a strong central government. The Democratic-Republicans had very little power. Some of the National Governments power went to individual states.

Alien and Sedition Acts

These series of laws were passed by the Federalist Congress in 1798. These laws were designed to silence and weaken and to silence the the Democratic Republicans newspapers. The Sedition Act violates protection of individuals.

War with Britain in 1812

In 1812, the United States declared war on Britain. The war of 1812 brought a new surge of nationalism which means a feeling of being loyal and proud of their country.

Extra Information

The Democratic-Republicans and Federalist also disagreed over the foreign policy. in 1807, Congress passed the Embargo Act to stop with both Britain and France, which hurt the American trade. The Embargo Act prohibited ships to go in and out. The Democratic- Republicans claimed that the Federalists were violating Freedom of Press because in the Alien and Sedition Act made everything silence.
