Mrs. Burns' Kindergarten

Weekly Wrap-Up

Run, Run, as fast as you can...

...You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread man!

This week we have been busy reading different versions of the Gingerbread Man and comparing characters and endings. We have found that though they may have similar characters, the content and endings all differ. In the traditional Gingerbread man for example, he gets eaten by the clever fox, but in the Gingerbread Baby he escapes the fox and is trapped in a Gingerbread house. We have had lots of fun with Gingerbread-themed Math and Literacy centers and coming up with our own endings to the story.

In our classroom, we have had our own little Gingerbread man, who we named "Gingy", that has been watching us work all week. Today, he went missing and "ran and ran"! Gingy left us little clues throughout the school as we tried to find him. After searching the Library, Office, Cafeteria, music room, and Gym we finally found him back in our classroom! He even left us treats... our own home-made Gingerbread men to decorate!

Thank you for making such cute Gingerbread characters over the break. We have loved sharing them and what they each can do. They are displayed for all to see in the hallway.

Skype with Canada

Do you remember having "Pen-Pals" as kids? Well, rather then paper-pen pals, we have virtually connected with a Kindergarten class in Canada!! Each week we will be skyping with our new Kindergarten friends in Canada. We will be picking books that both classes will read and then share what we have learned and activities we have done. Today our new friends shared with us a little about Canada and we told them all about Florida. The children were surprised to hear they had snow on the ground, and the Canadian children were shocked that we were wearing shorts and short-sleeved shirts. We can't wait to re-connect with them next week!

In Kindergarten, we are preparing our hearts for the birth of Jesus. We have learned that Advent is a time to wait, and a season in which we get ready to celebrate the coming of the Son of God. We have talked a lot about what we can do to prepare our hearts, such as helping others, collecting things for the poor, going to mass and praying as a family.

A cute little preview of what's to come....

Don't forget.. Sunday we will have our Christmas Concert after the 9:30am Mass!

Kindergarten will sit together during mass in the front right three pews.

Come dressed in your best Christmas attire.
