CE2 Poetry Cafe
Today Ce2 students ended their poetry unit with a poetry cafe. Each student read their poetry aloud, as well as a poetry analysis of a Maya Angelou poem. Students used what they learned about rhyme, simile, onomatopoeia, alliteration, etc. and wrote poems that were inspired by the people and things they treasure.
PTO Kudos
We want to extend a big thank you to each of you as members of the PTO for your volunteerism in support of school events this year. And it goes without saying that the PTO Executive Committee (Rana Turman, Gregory Stein, Andrea TenBrink, Angie Morgan, Matt Cooper, Holly Johnson, Céline Swicegood, and Mike Cook) has done a great deal in leading these efforts. We would like to thank this group especially for your time, dedication, and commitment to AIS! And to our Fall and Spring Room Parents, thank you for supporting our teachers and coordinating efforts with parents in the classroom!
The PTO election was this Tuesday, and congrats to our incoming PTO Executive Committee for the 2019-2020 school year:
- President – Holly Johnson
- Vice President – Andrea TenBrink
- Treasurer – Mike Cook
- Secretary – Open position
- Room Parent Coordinator – Theresa Pudenz
- Volunteer Coordinator – Open position
Next year’s PTO Executive Committee will identify people to fill the positions of Secretary and Volunteer Coordinator as found in Section 3.4 of the bylaws.
MAP Assessments Continue
Next week we will be continuing our last MAP session for the year for students in CE2-5è. Students do their best when they are well rested, have eaten a healthy breakfast, and are tested in the morning. All test sessions will take place before lunch during Block 1 (8:15-9:45) and Block 2 (10:05-11:25). If your child is absent or needs additional time, their teacher will schedule a time for them to make up or finish their test. Please reinforce that students can take as much time as they need to do their best and finish their test.

- Picked up students may join families under their supervision in the auditorium for sibling performances.

Please bring picnic blankets, yard chairs, and join us in the celebration! We will need a few folks to help during the event and with clean-up, so be on the lookout for a volunteer sign-up soon. The portico and part of the front lot will be partitioned off in the afternoon to accommodate, so thanks for your support and patience in navigating the remaining spaces and side streets safely.

Students will be grouped on color teams to play against another team, rotating between 8 fun activity stations. At 1:30, the whole school will have a group Tug of War under the portico followed by popsicle celebrations!
Please apply sunscreen on students before arriving at school that day and remember to pack an extra set of clothes (as students will get wet), a hat, a water bottle, and extra sunscreen to reapply as needed. We need 10-12 volunteers per session to assist the students with the activities. Thank you for signing up here.
Lost & Found
As we approach the end of the year, please check the lost and found in the foyer for coats, hats, water bottles, and other items as they are piling up. We will be donating any leftover items at the end of the school year.
Playground Fence
Students should refrain from talking through the fence during recess to folks walking by. Thank you for discussing this with your child(ren). Parents and guardians, if you need to drop something off for your child, please come check-in with reception or leave items there for delivery rather than parking street-side and handing things over the fence. Thank you for helping to keep our campus safe and secure.
