STUDENTS ADVANCE TO STATE PTA REFLECTIONS CONTEST

Lyra Ehninger's, Soaring Creativity, and Alexandra Bowser's, Isolated in Imagination, were chosen this week to advance to the state level for the PTA Reflections contest. This is a wonderful achievement as nearly 60,000 students participate in the program annually and less than 3% of those advance to Texas PTA. Congratulations Lyra and Alexandra.

ATTENTION 9TH GRADE PARENTS

Spinal screening for all 9th grade students will begin the week of Jan. 25, 2016 and continue through the spring semester until all students have been screened. The purpose of spinal screening is to detect the signs of abnormal curves of the spine at their earliest stages so that the need for treatment can be determined. Required by law, all children in grades 6 and 9 are required to be screened. Exceptions to this are exemption for religious reasons or the student being under the care of a physician for scoliosis. Submission of a written affidavit of exemption or the results of a professional examination must be submitted to the school nurse for your student to be exempt from screening.

Screening will be performed during non-core classes whenever possible. Please also note that it is beneficial for girls to have a tank top or sports bra available during screening.

Please contact the school nurse, Mrs. Eastabrook, at 817-399-3101 for any questions or concerns.

Coming January 19: NEW HEB ISD Parent and Community Survey- We want to hear from you on our new, shorter survey this year! Your feedback helps us improve education for all students!

NJHS Tab Time

NJHS has kicked of their annual tab collection for the Ronald McDonald House. Many teachers and/or classes have helped collect in previous years, and we would love your help this year as well. Please save the tabs from anything canned (beverages, soda, juices, soups, etc). We will be collecting until May.For those of you who do not know about the tab collection, the Ronald McDonald House recycles the tabs and uses the money to buy supplies for the house. It is a wonderful community service project because the house provides free lodging for families while children are receiving long term (and often very serious) medical treatment.
