Veterans Day November 11th
This year at Evergreen Park, students and staff have the opportunity to honor the veterans in our lives through a Wall of Honor. A slip will be sent home with your student to fill out and return to their teacher by November 10th if they have a special veteran (alive or deceased) they want to honor. This is a way for Evergreen Park to recognize the sacrifices that individuals and their families have made for our country through their years of service.

A message from the principal
Happy Fall Evergreen Families!
Last Month, our staff and students learned about responsibility as our focus for Purposeful people. In November, the focus character trait is under the "Living Well" category. We will work hard to learn, model and share GRATITUDE this month! Watch for the family newsletter to come home.
We also had a blast learning about Hispanic heritage to honor Hispanic Heritage month! We learned about some of our staff member's cultures, learned some new words in Spanish and also learned about some famous people who have made great contributions! This month is Native American Heritage Month and the planning has already begun for our student and staff learning!
We have some important dates coming up that it is important for our families to know about. Nov. 3rd any students that missed the original picture day, or were not happy with their photos have the opportunity for picture retakes.
November 8th students in elementary do not have school because our school is a polling place for our neighborhood. Teachers will be in professional development that day.
November 10 our EPIC parent group and our staff are teaming up for a fun and educational event for families and kids. The learning component will focus on helping families better understand the state tests (MCAs) in grades 3-5. This will be followed by a return of our Fall festival which will include food, games and a DJ for the whole family to enjoy! More information will be coming soon. Stay tuned!
Finally on November 17th, we will have our monthly food distribution. We partner with state funding to provide fresh and frozen products on a monthly basis to our families. This is open to ALL evergreen families and is on a first come, first serve basis. We hold this in our cafeteria, from 4:15-5:30. Please watch for the reminders when these events are happening.

Health services
As the weather is changing please remember to have the appropriate outdoor clothing-jackets, hats, gloves etc.
The guideline for keeping children inside for recess is 0 degree
temperature or 10 degrees below zero wind chill.
Here are tips on appropriate dress for cold weather:
• Wear several layers, the layer of air between each piece of
clothing acts as extra insulation.
• Wear clothing that insulates, shields and breathes. Wool and
polypropylene are good insulators.
• Outer layers should be wind and waterproof.
• Wear wool socks and well-fitting waterproof boots.
• Wear a hat to prevent heat loss.
• In most cases, mittens are warmer than gloves.
• In extreme cold, cover all areas of exposed skin.
