Math
Now that we can read, write, and say numbers up to the billions place, we focus on COMPOSING and DECOMPOSING them. We will practice ADDING and SUBTRACTING numbers. The most difficult part of this unit is REGROUPING when necessary. There are four strategies we will use to add and subtract. I don't care which strategy they use as long as it works. Practice practice practice! Take a look in the Math Journal for help.

Science
We will finish up Unit 1 this week with a discussion on the SCIENTIFIC METHOD. We will go through each of the steps and understand that all scientists use the Scientific Method in each of their experiments. To put the method into practice, we will do a SKITTLES LAB this week. Please make sure that your child has returned his or her signed lab safety contract so we can all participate. We will have a UNIT 1 TEST this week that covers lab safety and the three areas of Science.
