"Notes" from Band
Week of: 5-14-18
Happy Mother's Day!
Thank you for coming out to our Spring Concert last Tuesday and for supporting your student’s efforts here at Prairie View. It really does make a world of difference! With the conclusion of our final concert of the year, we are now turning our gaze fully toward the Memorial Day Parade.
As we have been telling students in class, this performance is our opportunity to use our craft to give back to the Sun Prairie Community by honoring those who gave their lives to protect what we cherish in this country. I know that many of you have lots of plans over the four-day weekend and I thank you in advance for the modifications you have made to allow your student to perform. It really does mean the a lot to many people in our community.
This Week's Lessons
This week, students will begin working toward the Memorial Day Parade and 6th graders will continue to complete SmartMusic learning targets. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about the schedule.

Memorial Day Rehearsal
This Saturday is our parade rehearsal with the Sound of Sun Prairie at the High School from 9:30 AM-12:00 PM. Here's what you need to know:
- Students should plan on arriving through door #3 (same door as our Late Winter Concert) between 9:00-9:15 AM so they have time to find our warm-up room and unpack.
- Rehearsal will conclude with "sneak peek" performance from The Sound of Sun Prairie on the parking lot outside the music area at around 11:30 AM. All parents are welcome to attend before picking up their students.
- Students need to transport their instruments to the high school for this rehearsal, which means that all instruments must go home at the end of the school day on Friday. The band room will NOT be open on Saturday as Mrs. Sederquist and I are both working the SOSP weekend rehearsal.
- If you need assistance transporting your student’s instrument to the high school, please let us know ASAP so we can plan ahead.
Memorial Day Parade
Here are some quick points to know about the Memorial Day Parade on May 28:
- students should plan on meeting out front at CHUMS at 9:15 AM for the Memorial Day Parade.
- Students are responsible for transporting their own instruments home so they will need to bring them home from Prairie View next Thursday as the building will not be unlocked over the weekend.
- Students should plan on wearing their band shirt, tennis shoes, and black pants. (this is a formal parade)
- The Sun Prairie Police Department has requested that students use the Library as a meeting location for pick-up after the parade. They would like all pickup traffic to proceed down Walker Way, continuing past the VFW building to turn left on Sun Field, and then turning right into the parking lot that connects to the library.
- We could use a few volunteers for the parade. If you can help out, please let Mrs. Sederquist or Mr. Quaglieri know.
7th Grade Band Jump Start
School Instrument Turn-in
Students will be turning in their school-owned instruments during the week of May 28. This means that all students should plan on bringing their home instruments back to school during this week. We will check out instruments for current 6th graders to use over the summer the following week, once we have reconciled, tested, and cleaned our inventory.
Current 7th grade students should arrange for a rental with Mr. Mesner at Cardinal Heights. (jrmesne@sunprairieschools.org)
