Mrs. Lisa's Music News

The Lee Academy Music Department is gearing up for a busy Christmas season!

The Elementary classes (Pre K through 6th grade) will present "Meet Me at the Manger" on Thursday, December 18 at 7:00 in the Lee Academy Gymnasium. This musical is full of energetic songs as well as a wonderful message reminding us that the gifts of the Wise Men are still relevant in our lives today. The musical begins as the choir is gearing up to sing all day at "Herod's Department Store" until the owner informs the children that there is just NO ROOM for them in his store. It's the day before Christmas and Mr. Herod is worried that the shoppers in the store (with money to spend!) will be distracted by the children singing. After all, the Christmas season only comes around once a year and he NEEDS his sales! The children head to the Lighthouse Mission to sing and make the Christmas season more joyful for some less fortunate people. In the end, the children remind Mr.Herod of the real reason we celebrate Christmas and he realizes when you have "Christmas Without Christ" , there's Savior, there's no Joy!

Annual 6th Grade trip to sing at the Capital

Our 6th grade class will be headed to the Capital to sing on Friday, December 19. We are once again privileged to be able to participate in the Holiday music celebration in the rotunda of the state capital in Little Rock. We will leave from the school at 8:00 SHARP because we have an11:00 performance time. We need to allow extra time in case we run into heavy traffic. Please have your child dressed in a white shirt (sweater, turtle neck, etc) and a black skirt or slacks for girls, khakis for boys. I have the red scarves and Santa hats we will wear. After we have performed, we will go eat lunch at a fast food restaurant. Each student will need $7.00 to eat lunch. We will return home by 3:00.

"Tell me, I forget; Show me, I remember; Involve me, I understand" (Carl Orff)

Lee Academy music program is centered around this concept. We "involve" our students in learning, understanding, composing, performing and gaining a love for music. We have classes for all students (Pre K through 12th grade) to "learn" music. Whether it involves our Preschool class moving to the music or our high school music appreciation class studying composers all students are taught the many and varied aspects of the wonderful world of music. We are constantly "learning" new music to perform for concerts. We have computer software we use weekly in the computer lab to help us "understand" and "compose" music. We have a Junior Music Club that meets monthly to assist the students in learning those important "performing" skills. Lastly, it is our hope that through general music classes, choir concerts, Christmas and Spring musicals and performing for anyone who will listen, all students will gain a lifelong "love for music".

"Music can change the world because it can change people" (Bono).
