Retrieving Student Items from Buildings
We are currently coordinating the pick-up of any student items left at school. These items will be pre-packaged for families to pick-up outside the building along with an opportunity to retrieve any medication that still needs to be distributed. All schools will have social distancing measures in place and families will not be allowed inside the building. If students have items from school they need to return (district-owned instruments, library books, textbooks, etc.), they should be dropped off at this time as well.
Below is the schedule for student pick-up of items:
Elementary students: May 27, 2020 (from 1:00PM-6:00 PM) and May 28, 2020 (from 8:00AM- 11:00 AM) are the designated days for students in Preschool through grade 6 to retrieve any needed items from school. Parents of elementary children will follow the typical “car line” path. Please drive up to the building (hold up a sign with student/s last name) and a staff member will bring your child’s items to you. Students do not need to be present during pick-up.
May 29th...Step-Up Day!!!!

A Message from Mrs. Wattiez
Hello Wickham families,
I wanted to reach out to you this week to continue to provide some additional resources and activities that you can access. These resources and activities can be used from Kindergarten through sixth grade.
This week I wanted to provide an activity related to emotions. In counseling class we spend a portion of our time identifying our emotions and the clues that we may see or feel in our bodies that can help us identify our emotions (for example if you are feeling angry you may notice that your mouth is frowning, your hands are in fists and your face turns red. These are all clues to help you identify you are feeling angry). The activity this week that we wanted to provide is called Feeling Charades. Follow with the directions below or click this link to have a printable and easy to read version.
Feeling Charades
Play a game of feeling charades with someone in your house. You can have as many players as you want. Read the following scenarios out loud together and take turns silently acting out how you would feel. Remember to show how you feel with your face and your body (such as scrunching your face, frowning and crossing your arms to show you are angry). The other player(s) should guess the feeling they think you are feeling. When they guess correctly let the other person know!
• You get a present in the mail you were not expecting.
• Your sibling took your toy without asking.
• Your soup is too hot to eat.
• You wanted to play outside but it started raining.
• Your favorite book gets water spilled on it.
• You baked cookies and they turned out perfect.
• You find out you are having brussel sprouts with dinner.
• You make a big chalk drawing outside. You worked really hard on this drawing.
• You accidentally knock over a plant at your house.
• When you are drawing a picture with markers you make a mistake and you have to start over again.
• You help your parent with the dishes without being asked.
• You build a really tall Lego tower but your pet knocks it over!
• You find out it is breakfast for dinner tonight.
In addition, I wanted to remind you that I continue to be available to provide support. I am available by email at wattiez.mallory@iowacityschools.org. I also use the app TalkingPoints which can translate messages between us and go directly to your phone via SMS. If you would like to talk with me using TalkingPoints, you can download the parent app and use the code RPTEQK to join my class “Mrs. W- Counseling.”
