Tanglen Update
May 26, 2023
Hello, Tanglen Community!
Today we held our 5/6 students vs staff volleyball game! This has become a fun tradition at Tanglen that students look forward to every year. This year was different in that we need to say goodbye to two grade levels. Not only did our older students get to practice their sportsmanship and volleyball skills, our younger students got to practice being a polite audience member and show integrity. Ask your children about their favorite parts of the event.
Enjoy the weekend ahead! Jim Hebeisen - Proud Tanglen Principal
May 31 & June 1: BOGO Book Fair
Tanglen is holding an end of year BOGO Book Fair. This is a fantastic opportunity to get some summer reading books before the end of the school year, and every single item on the fair is buy one, get one free! The Scholastic Book Fair will be open after school from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31 and Thursday, June 1, right here at Tanglen in the media center.
Llamas and Be the Nice Kid
Your students have hopefully told you about some recent guests to our school. We had llamas visit our school over a few days so all of our students could get up close with these unique animals. The students not only learned about llamas, they got to experience first hand how connecting with an animal can reduce stress, blood pressure, and keep us in a better mental state. We also had Bryan Skavnak with us last week to talk about how to "Be the Nice Kid." His approachable nature, real-life stories, and "can do" attitude helped to center our students on some of the character strengths we are working on at our school. To learn more about Bryan and his services, check out

A grant from HEF helped fund both of these events. HUGE thanks to the Hopkins Education Foundation for funding opportunities like these for our students! https://hopkinseducationfoundation.org/

Donations Needed: District-WIde Year-End Staff Celebration
The end of the school year is right around the corner. Before we say our goodbyes we are asking for your support one last time to honor ALL the staff and teachers in the Hopkins School District! All 1300 district employees have been invited to attend a year-end party on June 8 and will be treated to food, music, prizes, and fun! The district cannot use taxpayer funds to pay for this celebration, so in order to make this happen, we are asking for families to donate money and items, and to borrow lawn games. Click here for details on how you can help.

Calling all families of rising sixth and seventh grade students! To help keep you informed on all things related to your child’s transition to middle school next year, North and West Middle Schools have created online transition hubs.
