SLE Weekly Update January 7, 2022
Good afternoon East families,
We hope you are well and staying healthy. We are proud of our students and staff for continuing to work hard in spite of the challenging times we are facing. It is hard to believe we are approaching the end of the first semester and we are preparing to begin the scheduling process for the 2022-23 school year. In the next few weeks, students will have opportunities to attend grade level meetings with their counselors to refresh their knowledge of the scheduling process and the use of Xello to do so. Mark your calendars for our annual Curriculum Fair which takes place on February 2, 2022. Facilitators from each department will be available to answer questions about the curriculum and many representatives from our co/extracurricular activities will be present to share information about their programs.
As a friendly reminder, all student spectators attending athletic and extracurricular events (including tonight’s boys and girls basketball games at SLHS) must adhere to the following guidelines:
Masks must be worn while attending the event.
No noisemakers, signs, bags, or outside food or drinks are permitted. Students attempting to enter the events with these items will be asked to take them to their cars or dispose of them.
Good sportsmanship is required at all times. Standards of conduct for sportsmanship should be reviewed on pages 40 and 41 of the student handbook.
Be East!
MIchigan Backpack Initiative
SLCS will be participating in the MI Backpack program through the MDHHS. This is a voluntary program which offers free at-home COVID-19 tests for students, staff, and their families. In order to receive the free test kit, families must complete the survey from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and sign up through our school district.
On Monday, January 10 you will receive an email which contains a link to the SLEHS Parent - MI Backpack Voluntary Sign Up Form. The form will confirm that you have completed the MDHHS survey and it will collect information that will help our district distribute the test kits efficiently. You can complete the MDHHS survey prior to completing our form by visiting the following site: MDHHS MI Backpack Pre-Survey. The SLEHS parent sign up will be open for a very short window of time before closing on Thursday, January 13 at 8:00 AM. The kits will be sent home with students on Friday, January 14, 2021 if their family signed up.
Be on the lookout for the SLEHS Parent - MI Backpack Voluntary Sign Up Form that will be sent on Monday.
OAKLAND sCHOOL TECHNICAL CAMPUS - OSTC
As we prepare to begin the scheduling process for the 2022-23 school year, we have arranged for 10th grade students to have the opportunity to meet with staff from OSTC on Friday, January 14th 2022 at SLEHS. Students who are interested in attending OSTC during their junior or senior year can find additional information regarding the admissions process, course offerings and visit opportunities by reviewing the following documents:
