SAT for Juniors
The SAT will be given to all Juniors on Wednesday, March 25th. The fee will be paid for by the school as it is a graduation requirement to take the SAT or ACT once.

Even though there is no school on Monday, February 17, students can still dress up and submit a photo of their costume for a chance to win a free drink at the Stik Cafe! Send your costume photos to mpowell@wpsd.us.

UPCOMING DEADLINES
1) Pictures for the graduation slideshow are due no later than FEBRUARY 28. The photos should consist of 5 photos ranging from baby to now. If you'd like to use the baby or senior photo that is in the yearbook, just indicate that in an email to Mrs. Howe (hhowe@wpsd.us).
If you have hard copies of your photos we can scan them and return them to you. Be sure to include your student's name with the photos.
2) No later than MARCH 16 Seniors will need to pick out their senior song for the slide show. This song is most often selected by the Senior and will be played along with the slideshow pictures.
Song must be approved by Mrs. Howe and the principal. Seniors will need to give the Song Name/Artist/Part of the song (60 seconds) they want to hear to Mrs. Howe via email (hhowe@wpsd.us).
3) MARCH 16 The letter written to the graduate from parents is due. It must be emailed to Mrs. Howe (hhowe@wpsd.us) and there is a 100 WORD MAXIMUM. The story or letter will not be accepted if they do not comply with the above requirements.
We will let you know how and when parents can come in to record their letter. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact HEATHER HOWE at the high school: 874-3395, extension 406 or email hhowe@wpsd.us or Class Advisor Diane O'Brien.

Job Announcements
Wrangell Public Schools is accepting applications for the following positions:
Middle School Assistant Volleyball Coach: This is an extracurricular position beginning February 18, 2020 coaching middle school students in the fundamentals of volleyball.
Substitute Employees: These are on-call positions working as a temporary custodian, secretary, teacher or paraprofessional during absences of regular staff members.
Business Manager: This is a 12-month position with benefits paid on the Exempt Employee Salary Schedule.
Responsibilities include oversight of the school budget using a uniform chart of accounts coding, maintaining financial records, conducting all banking, payroll, accounts payable, annual audit preparation and advising the superintendent in all matters that are financially relevant for the district. Degree in business and/or five years’ experience in school business management preferred.
K-12 School Counselor: the counselor is responsible for data collection related to social, emotional and personal counseling and guidance for students assigned.
• Valid Alaskan Type C Special Services Certificate required, with an endorsement as Counselor.
• Alaskan Type A Teaching Certificate preferred.
• At least one year demonstrated successful educational counseling experience preferred.
Responsibilities:
A. It is the responsibility of the counselor to maintain competency in areas of certification and assignment.
B. It is the responsibility of the counselor to provide for counseling opportunities and a planned sequence of career guidance activities for students.
C. It is the responsibility of the counselor to provide consulting service to the teachers, administrator and parents.
D. It is the responsibility of the counselor to provide information and recommendations for education and career placement, and to make health, psychological and legal referrals.
E. It is the responsibility of the counselor to share in the facilitation of district wide testing program to include statewide assessments and MAP testing, assessments and surveys including administration, information, interpretation, staff training and evaluation of results.
F. It is the responsibility of the counselor to strive for harmonious and cooperative relationships with staff, students, parents and community.
G. It is the responsibility of the counselor to encourage community participation, maintain a positive image, and to develop contacts in the community.
Anticipated Start Date: January 6, 2020.
Long-term Substitute Elementary Teacher: This position will begin on February 10, 2020 and is estimated to run through March 13, 2020. An Alaskan Type A Teaching Certificate with the appropriate endorsements is required. Please contact the district office at 874-2347 for more information. Position: Open Until Filled
Secondary Generalist/Guidance Counselor: This is a full-time generalist teaching position with the ability to provide career and college counseling to secondary students.
• Alaskan Type A Teaching Certificate required.
• Multiple Endorsements preferred
Secondary School Social Emotional Learning Counselor: the counselor is responsible for data collection related to social, emotional and personal counseling and guidance for students assigned.
• Valid Alaskan Type C Special Services Certificate required, with an endorsement as Counselor.
• Alaskan Type A Teaching Certificate preferred.
• At least one year demonstrated successful educational counseling experience preferred.
Secondary Math Teacher: This is a full-time teaching position providing Math at the secondary level.
- Alaskan Type A Teaching Certificate required Secondary Certification 7-12 grade
- Master’s degree in Math preferred
- Strength and experience at the Middle School level preferred
- Applied/VO ED Math background preferred
Anticipated Start Date: August 26, 2020.
