Coaches Vs. Cancer

Many members of our community and school community are undergoing cancer treatment or are in recovery from cancer. The "Coaches Vs. Cancer" event has been an annual event at Beech Grove High School to help those in treatment or recovery through this difficult time. Donations received from the event go directly to assist our Hornet families. Over $1,600 in donations were secured to assist three families. Special thanks to BGHS' Athletic Director, Matt English, and his wife, Angela English, for all they do to make this event such a special one.

Photos from the event are pictured below.

From Lt. Mike Treat, Beech Grove Police Department . . .

"We had a terrific day once again with the children. We had the most kids ever participate in the program at 40 children.

I would like to thank the Beech Grove School system for providing transportation with the buses. Also, Paige Anderson and the student council for all of their help. K-Mart, Greatimes and Brozinnis Pizza for their participation on the day of. The Police Officers and their spouses for their dedication to the program as well. Of course all of our donors that continue to support the program to keep it going. Lastly, the organization and coordination efforts of Colleen Treat."

Thank you, BGPD, for all you do for our Beech Grove students!

Google Expeditions at South Grove Intermediate

From Mrs. Collinsworth . . .

"What could be better than starting the year off with a field trip? That's exactly what 20 groups of students got to experience on Monday, January 4th. Classes went on an ocean safari, ventured to the Congo, explored the Seven Wonders of the World, travelled to Leeds Castle in England, and even went to Mars!

South Grove was selected as one of the schools in central Indiana to participate in this pilot program being tested around the globe. It was awesome to hear students' reactions to the incredible sights seen using Google Cardboard and the Explorer app. One teacher stated, "We had so much fun doing this, and we learned something too!" Another said, "My kids were so excited and just loved it... We only wish we could have had another hour (or three!). The best was watching my kids in the Congo looking around and then jumping when they saw the gorilla. They about fell out of their seats!"

Many thanks to Mrs. Collinsworth, who coordinated this fabulous program!

Send Us Your Hornet Highlights!

We know there are many, many positive stories about Beech Grove City Schools involving our students, teachers, staff, and programs that we don't always hear. If you have a positive story to share, please send the details to Melody Stevens, Community Relations Director, at mstevens@bgcs.k12.in.us. We also encourage you to send stories that include personal achievements of your child such as: attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, performing in a community play, earning Girl Scout badges, serving as a volunteer in a non-profit organization, etc., etc. You might just see your story in a future edition of the "Hornet Blast" or in one of our local south side newspapers. We want to celebrate our Hornets!
