Falcon Focus

December 4, 2020

From the Desk of Mr. Biscan

Dear Falcon Families,

I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday. It was a break that provided the opportunity for many to disconnect and reflect on the people and things for which they are most grateful. It's also a challenging time for many who are experiencing loss and hardship. These are the families we continue to do our best to support through our district's food distribution program. Further information about that process can be found below.

As we continue to conduct teaching and learning through a remote environment, please let us know how we can assist you with your student's academic and social/emotional progress. As I stated earlier in the school year, we will work to form a partnership so we can challenge and support all students, no matter the learning environment.

This edition of the Falcon Focus contains valuable information. Additionally, you can refer to our WNHS Family Update Page by clicking https://sites.google.com/cusd200.org/wnhs-family-updates/home.

Have a safe and wonderful weekend.

We are Falcons. We are Proud. We are North

TCD (Technology Center of DuPage) Students

Congratulations to Caleb Tran for being nominated TCD Student of the Month! Caleb was nominated by his teacher in the Auto Body Repair and Refinishing program.

Even though Wheaton North has returned to fully remote instruction, TCD is still conducting hybrid instruction for our students on Mondays and Tuesdays. Students who ride the bus should not come to WN to pick it up. They should pick it up at the stop and time that was assigned before WN went to hybrid instruction. These To and From TCD routes are posted on our website (wnhs.org).

Furthermore, Friday, December 18, 2020 is an Institute Day for TCD, so there will be no remote instruction on that day.

Lastly, WN and TCD have the same Winter Break, so there will be no instruction from Monday, December 21, 2020 - Friday, January 1, 2021. In-person and remote instruction for both will resume on Monday, January 4, 2021.

Class of 2021

Senior conferences have wrapped up but counselors are still working with individual students on their college applications. If your son or daughter needs additional support, have them reach out to their counselor to set up an appointment.

The FAFSA (Free Application For Federal Student Aid) opened on October 1. Don’t wait to get started! For a complete guide to the FAFSA, please check out the counseling website under the Financial Aid link.

Beginning with the 2020-21 school year, in addition to all other graduation requirements, a student must meet one of the following requirements to receive a public school diploma (Public Act 101-0180).

  1. File a FAFSA Application; or

  2. File an Application for State Financial Aid; or

  3. File a waiver/opt out with the school district. (This should only be filled out if you do not intend to complete the FAFSA. Once completed, please download and email it to the counseling office secretary at: carolyn.switalski@cusd200.org

Nothing additional is needed to meet the graduation requirement. Once you file your FAFSA, the state reports back to WN that it is complete.
