Blaze Bulletin
Edition 2 - August 22nd
Greetings...
Dear Teachers,
Thank you, thank you for the best start of school I've ever been associated with! I hope you have a restful weekend, as I know we are all tired from our efforts this week! You are the best!
Just as a reminder, I've copied below comments from inservice:
Priority: Help people (students, teachers, administrators, staff, me) take the next steps as learners.
What are the next steps?
- Know and perfect your craft
- Connect and share with others
- Discover your purpose
- Make a difference (to each other and students)
These are my priorities and I hope that you embrace them with me. All in together!
MLK quote: Life's most persistent and urgent questions is, "what are you doing for others?"
Sincerely,
Dr. Leisa Justus

TNCompass for Licensure Transactions
On July 1, the department transitioned to the TNCompass licensure system. Licensure transactions must now occur via TNCompass; as of Aug. 1, the department no longer accepts paper applications. This includes name change, adding a degree, viewing your evaluation history and PDP’s (professional development points) and more.
All Tennessee educators must establish an account in TNCompass.
· Educators who have not already done so should visit theTNCompass website to establish an account as soon as possible.
· Educators who have established their TNCompass accounts should be reminded to keep their profile information up-to-date by accessingTNCompass.
· It is advisable that teacher’s use a personal email address so that regardless of your employment in a TN district, you can access TNCompass through that email account.
Introducing: The BHS Alumni Association
Seventeen years ago when you told someone you worked at Blackman High School, you had to explain where that was. Now, thanks to the hard work of many, we don't have to do that anymore. People know.
After seventeen years of excellence, we have nearly 7,000 alumni. They are building careers, starting families, and influencing communities. As they continue to define what it means to be "Blackman," we need to stay in touch with them. We need to find ways to keep them in engaged with the great things still happening in our classrooms and on our athletic fields. We also need to highlight their accomplishments so that current students can see the possibilities that are well within their reach.
So....we are launching the Blackman High School Alumni Association.
Our website is: http://blackmanalumni.weebly.com
Follow us on Twitter: @BlackmanAlumni
Starting today, we really need your help with two things:
1. Getting this information out. We need you to post, tweet, email, (mimeograph....whatever it takes) this information to any and all graduates you know (former players, former students, former club members etc.). We would like them to check out our website and provide us with current contact information. We also would like them to RSVP for our first Alumni Gathering.
2. Promote the 1st Alumni Gathering - We are hosting an alumni gathering on the night of the Blackman vs. Siegel football game (Oct. 14th). Kickoff is at 7:00, but we would like alumni to come early. If they will RSVP on the website, we will give them and their spouse/children discounted tickets. We will have a hospitality tent for them and reserved seating in the stands. We would like them to be our honored guests at that night's game and hope to use this as a starting point for many great alumni events to come.
If you want to keep it simple, here is a pre-written statement that you could copy, paste, and post/tweet/share:
"Connect with the new Blackman High School Alumni Association. It is the official place to find out about all alumni information. Follow us on Twitter (@BlackmanAlumni) and be sure to check out our website (http://blackmanalumni.weebly.com). On the website, be sure to share your current contact information and RSVP for our first Alumni Gathering on Friday, October 17th (Blackman vs. Siegel). We invite you to return as our honored guests and enjoy a great night among friends."
Questions? Ideas? Feel free to call or email. And please start sharing this information with former players, students, club members, etc. Thank you!
Justin Smith

Notes about Student Computer Accounts
1. Here is how to find a student’s computer username and password. Most students know it already, but just in case…
a. Click on the student’s name in iNow
b. The screen that opens will list some basic information about the student. Two ID numbers will be listed. You/they need the one labeled State ID. This is their computer password. If the State ID is blank, that means the state has not yet generated an ID number for them. Use the word password as the password in the meantime. At some point this will switch over to an ID number.
c. With the student’s information window still open, click the Access tab.
d. Find the box labeled User Name. This is the student’s computer username.
2. If a student is new to RCS, there will be a delay of a 2-4 days before he/she has access to One Drive.
3. Freshmen will not have access to email until the week of August 22. They do have access to One Drive.
4. Questions? Ask Holly. She will be happy to help!
