ELPA Testing

We have started our ELPA21 testing of every ELL student in the district. Every year our ELL students are required to take an English proficiency assessment determined by ADE. The ELPA 21 test is an online exam for students. They take four online components: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.

Title III Sub-grant

We have applied for approximately an additional $11,000 sub-grant under Title III for 2016-2017 school year. This funding would assist us in providing additional support in the classroom and tutoring at specific schools to ELL students.

GT Referral Process

As a GT team, we have developed an online Parent referral form. This form is now posted on our district website under the Programs link, Gifted Programs, GT Parent Referral Form. School sites can still print a paper copy of this form for a parent who does not have internet access.

Our Benton teachers are now using our GT Teacher referral form. Creating a digital system allows us to maximize our resources and stream line our current screening procedures.

Career & Technical Education

CTE @ Benton School District

On February 1, 2016 we should receive a decision regarding the approval and grant award from Arkansas Department of Career Education (ACE) for our Sports Medicine pathway proposal. Our CTE teachers are beginning to receive their equipment and materials from our Perkins fund. Most of our amendments have been approved and equipment ordered. In conjunction with the CTE department chair, we have discussed program of study and course offerings for 2016-2017 school year.

CTE Center Project

On February 3, 2016, Stantec developed a program recommendation that they will presented to the CTE Executive Committee and the seven Saline County Superintendents. The seven Superintendents met again and reviewed the program proposal. Each district is currently gathering data and information to make final pathway recommendations to Stantec.
