Units of Study
Reading: We are finishing up a unit on Aesop's fables. This week, students will choose a moral and will compose a fable to teach their moral. We will be integrating technology as students use an animation app to bring their fables to life in the version of a cartoon. I can't wait to share the final projects with you all!! Home reading logs will be coming home tomorrow! The required total minutes of reading for November is 200 and logs are due back on Monday, Dec. 1st. There will be NO reading log for December. In January, in lieu of reading logs, I will be introducing a BOOK CHALLENGE! Look for more information to come home in the new year!
Writing: We are in the midst of a brief comma and quotation unit. Students are exploring how to correct integrate commas and quotation marks into their writing through the use of dialogue, etc. We will be publishing our personal narrative stories in the computer lab soon. Our next unit will be on informational writing.
Word Study: December will be our last month of word study. We will be moving on to vocabulary. Students will have weekly vocabulary lists to study and will have quizzes on Fridays. A solid foundation in vocabulary is critical in understanding higher-level literature. Look for more information to come home in the new year. I just wanted to give you a head's up.
