MAT 171 - MAT 172 for Juniors
Meet our new OECHS faculty members:
Mrs. Alie Catret Knox (Civics and Economics Honors; AP World History)
I was born in Pennsylvania but have spent most of my life living in North Carolina. My dad was in the Marine Corps, so we lived a few other places while I was growing up, mainly Virginia and Hawaii. I graduated from Southwest High School and decided to go to college in Tennessee. I obtained my BA from Freed-Hardeman University in History and Secondary Education.
After I graduated, I moved back to North Carolina and began my teaching career at Swansboro Middle School where I taught Eighth Grade Social Studies and AVID for eighteen years. In 2015 I decided to get my Master’s degree in School Administration from East Carolina University.
The following year, I moved to Scotland and married my husband, John. I have been living right outside of Edinburgh for the last two years. I have absolutely loved living in the UK, with one big exception, I am so far away from my family. We have decided to move back to North Carolina as the weather in the UK is a bit dreary, and I missed my home.
On a personal note, I cannot wait to begin the new school year at OECHS. I am looking forward to a fantastic year with an amazing faculty and even more amazing students.
Mr. Michael Springfield (Biology Honors)
I moved to NC in 1981, graduating from West Carteret High School in 1982. I went to UNCW and graduated with my BA in Biology and my Science teaching certificate in 1987. Tanya and I married in 1991 and have three children: Jake, Holly, and Riley. Originally, I taught Biology at Jacksonville High School from 1988-2001. I earned my Masters from ECU in 1992 (MaED in Science Education). From 2001-2018, I taught Biology at Croatan High School.
In addition to teaching, I coached the Jacksonville Golf team for thirteen years and the Croatan Golf team for fifteen years. I received the Conference Coach of the Year seven times with Jacksonville and five times with Croatan. For the past year, I have worked at Lowe's Home Improvement. I am excited to be a part of the OWL team!
Mrs. Judy Yeager (English IV Honors)
Hello Owls! I am excited to be teaching English IV at the OECHS. I have twenty-eight years’ experience, with twenty-two years in Onslow County Schools. My credentials include a BA in English Education and Masters of School Administration, and an Education Specialist in Curriculum and Supervision degree. My past teaching experience includes teaching grades 9-12 in English/Language Arts; however, my absolutely favorite course is English IV/British Literature. I see myself as a facilitator of learning, encouraging students to always add the powerful “yet” to the limiting “I can’t” statement.
On a personal level, I’ve lived in Jacksonville for over 20 years and almost feel like a local. I love living in a military connected community and value the wealth of experience and knowledge military families bring to the educational arena. I am married to a retired postmaster and have three children, all of whom live in Onslow County and are involved in education. Looking forward to meeting each of you personally and a great 2019-2020 school year!
