Library Happenings

This year the library has hosted two new activities: Senior volunteers visit our school once a week for an after school buddy reading program and twice a week students from the new STEM club come into the library to create their own inventions using Little Bits - color-coded electronic bits that snap together to make circuits.

New Easy Reader Collection

Blackout Poetry - An Example of Close Reading

Fifth grade students created "Blackout Poetry" from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Students identified what they considered were the most important words in each Article of the UDHR and blacked out the other words. The words that were left became poems. We'll be using this technique when we read poems in the spring during National Poetry Month.
