Eastwood High School
Principal's Update #26 - March 18, 2016
Dear Parents & Community Members,
As the school year has progressed, our students have spent a great deal of time learning new academic material, improving their skills, and continually practicing/refining their abilities so that when they need to demonstrate their knowledge they can rise to the challenge. From an academic standpoint, these challenges occur daily within the classroom setting in the form of homework, projects, presentations, and tests/quizzes. At each step of the way, they are guided by our teachers (AKA - their academic "coaches"), and given the opportunity to demonstrate their newly developed skills. Students are given a chance to learn from their mistakes, grow from the experience, and apply their abilities as new situations are presented.
Within the coming weeks following Spring Break, several students in various classes will be taking their state assessments (end of course exams) and be given an opportunity to show everyone locally, and at the state level, exactly how fantastic and academically talented the students at Eastwood HS are. They will be able to apply all the knowledge that they have gained and use their skills in these academic assessments. Furthermore, they will be given their "moment to shine" - just like those student-athletes participating in the NCAA Tournaments - where the time and effort that has been put into preparing for these assessments will be measured on a greater scale than simply taking a quiz in a classroom.
As far as the NCAA Tournaments go, it's always exciting to see the close games and how the whole tournament unfolds. I'm even more excited to see how our students will perform, academically (and athletically) as our version of "March Madness" continues at Eastwood High School. We look forward to another successful Spring testing "season" and the results that will follow.
"The Music Man" Comes to Eastwood High School
We wish everyone involved the best of luck this weekend and look forward to seeing everyone in attendance as we showcase the amazing talents of our students and staff.
Eastwood HS Concert Band Receives "Excellent" Rating
A tremendous amount of time, practice, and dedication went into this year's performance at the adjudicated event. We appreciate the collective efforts of each member of the ensemble, the Directors (Mr. Myers & Mr. Roode), and the Music Boosters group in helping the ensemble achieve this rating.

After Prom News.....
The Eastwood HS After Prom Committee is working on plans for this year’s Drug & Alcohol Free After Prom. The goal of the committee is to provide a safe and enjoyable activity for the students to attend after the prom dinner/dance on Saturday, April 30, 2016. The committee has meetings scheduled for March 23rd, April 6th, and April 20th - all at 7:00 PM in the Eastwood HS library - and would like to invite everyone to attend these final meetings. In addition, the committee is also looking for volunteers to help decorate on Friday, April 29th and to help out with the actual evening of after prom on April 30th.
Finally, information about the annual Greenhouse Gift Certificate fundraiser will be coming very soon. With the warmer weather on the horizon, it’s never too early to begin thinking about planting some flowers and gardens. The committee and students of Eastwood High School thank everyone for their support of their efforts and look forward to seeing everyone at one of the upcoming meetings.
