Veterans Day is a Special Time for Woodland Students
Woodland Primary
What: Woodland Primary School Honors Our Nation’s Veterans with a Flag Raising Ceremony.
When: Monday, Nov. 11 – 8:30 a.m.
Where: Primary flag pole in front of school
OTHER: Paper hearts were sent home with primary students for families to fill out in honor of a special veteran. The hearts that were returned to school will be displayed.
Elementary East
What: Veteran’s Day Celebration. A military color guard will raise the flag outside of East and students will say the Pledge of Allegiance and the choir will sing the National Anthem.
When: Monday, Nov. 11 – 7:40 a.m.
Where: Elementary East in front of school.
OTHER: From 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., more than 30 military personnel from Great Lakes Naval Base, will be dressed in uniform and visiting classrooms throughout the day speaking to students about the importance of various jobs in the military. They will also be taking questions from children. The Art Department made banners welcoming our military officers and the Physical Education Department will be playing a game called Battleship. State Representative Joyce Mason will also be joining us.

Elementary West
What: Veterans Day celebration. Students will sing a song, and all veterans in attendance will receive a carnation.
When: Monday, Nov. 11 – 9 – 9:30 a.m.
Where: Elementary West Gym
OTHER: Change for Change: Students were encouraged to bring in change Nov. 4 – 8. Monday pennies, Tuesday nickels, Wednesday dimes, Thursday quarters, Friday all coins. The principal will announce the amount raised at the Veterans Day celebration on Monday.
Intermediate School
Intermediate
What: Veteran's Day Breakfast. Students and their families were gather for breakfast and recognize Veterans in their family and community.
When: Monday, Nov. 11 – 8:30 a.m.
Where: Intermediate Multi-Purpose Room
OTHER: Students were able to submit information to recognize a Veteran in the Hallway of Heroes, and participate in a Veterans Day Writing Contest by submitting an original speech, poem, song or rap. Winners will present their work at the breakfast.
Middle School
What: Veterans Day is incorporated into the curriculum at each grade level. For example, classes will watch videos, discuss the differences between Veterans Day and Memorial Day, talk about the various contributions of Veterans, the importance of supporting our Veterans when they come home, and making school displays relevant to the activities in class.
When: Monday, Nov. 11
