Sorrick Family Focus
Week of September 23, 2019
There are a lot of exciting events happening in the school and surrounding community in the coming weeks! Please mark your calendars and complete the required forms for events of interest:
The first Book Talk of the school year will be held on Tuesday, September 24th. This event is open to all first-grade students and their parents. The purpose of this event is to participate in some fun reading activities centered around the Common Core State Standards. Several books are also raffled off to participating students at each meeting. A registration form was sent home last week and those who signed up are welcome to attend from 4:00-5:00 PM. If you did not get a chance to sign up this time but wish to attend the next event on October 15th, please return the next form that will be sent home in the coming weeks.
Looking for free books to enjoy with your child? Check out the Little Free Library outside of Door #1 at Sorrick School. Take a book or leave a book and enjoy some fantastic children's literature!
PTA Spiritwear Orders
If you are interested in ordering some Sorrick spiritwear for your child and/or anyone in your family, please be sure to send in your order form and payment by this Tuesday, September 24th. Orders are custom made and cannot be returned or exchanged for a different size. Please make checks payable to Sorrick PTA.
The next Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 25th. Please join us to learn more about our programs for English Learners and hear about our Parent Advisory Committee. The mission of the Parent Advisory Committee is for parents and school district staff to work together to meet the needs of our multilingual students and their families. A PowerSchool Parent Access account allows you to check your child's report card each quarter. The link to sign into Parent Access is https://powerschool.npd117.net/public/. The instructions for how to open the report card can be found by clicking here. If you have not yet set up a PowerSchool Parent Access account, please follow these directions to do so. Volunteer & Visitor Guidelines
All parents who volunteer at school (whether it be in the classroom or on a field trip) must fill out our NPD117 Volunteer Guidelines forms and submit a copy of their photo ID. New volunteer guidelines are available to download here. Please read carefully, sign and return both pages fully completed with a current photo ID to the Sorrick office at least 7 days before attending.
Sorrick follows the PBIS system, which stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. Sorrick Cougars are expected to be safe, caring, respectful, here & ready to learn on a daily basis. Our students receive individual and class incentives for following these expectations.
