Texans Rely on King Cotton

Cotton Slavery
Tenant System Replaces Slavery
The new system, tenant farming, developedafter the Civil War greatly affecting lives of Texans in Texas. The plantations were replaced with small farms after the war and mostly rented to tenant farmers. The landowners got a part of the crop just like sharecropping. If the landowners provided farming, tools, seeds, and supplies they recieved a larger portion than they would originally recieved.
