School Board meetings to be held virtually

The board passed a resolution to hold all future school board meetings virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Termination of probationary staff

Due to decreases/changes in enrollment, elimination of positions, uncertainty of funding, lack of funds, performance or return from leave of senior teachers, the Board voted to terminate 37 probationary teachers.

Placement of staff on unrequested leave of absence

Due to decreases/changes in enrollment, elimination of positions, uncertainty of funding, lack of funds, requests for voluntary unrequested leave of absence, or return from leave of senior teachers, the Board voted to place four learning resource teachers on an unrequested leave of absence.

Ratification of employment contract

The Board approved the proposed contract between the District and the Paraeducator Union of School Service Employees, Local 284, as presented. Major contract points are below.

  • Increase to the salary schedule of 2% in year one and 1.8% in year two of the contract.
  • Increase in longevity of $0.05 per hour beginning in year five of service.
  • Total contract increase of 3.85% over the two-year period.

Acquisition of property

Assistant Superintendent John Ward gave an update regarding the District's efforts to acquire the property across from Mounds View High School on Lake Valentine Road. The culmination of those efforts is an agreed upon Settlement Stipulation and Agreement. The Board approved the settlement for the acquisition of the property across the road from Mounds View High School and authorized staff and legal counsel to execute all documents necessary to finalize the settlement.

Distance learning update

Superintendent Chris Lennox provided Board members with an update regarding distance learning. Lennox reviewed the results of a recent survey that had been sent to Mounds View students and parents/legal guardians.


The Board discussed issues and updates related to Northeast Metro 916 and AMSD.
