Re-Cap of Our Week - Growing Statesmen Strong!
4K Statesmen Are Learning About Rhymes!
Our youngest Statesmen are continuing to grow as readers! During thier shared reading time, students are learning about words that rhyme. Rhyming is an important early literacy skill because it teaches children how language works. It helps them notice and work with the sounds within words. When children are familiar with a nursery rhyme or rhyming book, they learn to anticipate the rhyming word. This prepares them to make predictions when they read, another important reading skill. Want to see how it's done? Take a look at the video below of Mrs. Schuck's morning class as they practice this important skill!
Statesmen 1st Graders are "Board" Writers!
1st Graders in Mrs. Rutsch/Mrs. Traucht & Mrs. Conway's class have been busy this month working on thier writing skills. For the entire month, students had an opportunity to practice thier writing at home, and had a month full of ideas on how to do this! Some students decided to write about a lost mitten, some wrote a goal they had for the new year and how they will meet thier goal, and some even wrote about a famous person they would like to meet. Today, was thier chance to celebrate with board games, and man did they have fun! Take a look and see our outstanding "board" writers!
Statesmen are "Flying" Into Jump Rope For Heart Thanks To Our PTO
Today we had an awesome way to kick off our Jump Rope For Heart fundraiser - which we will be celebrating on Friday, January 16th. The Milwaukee Flyers, which is a Tumbling Team was established in 2005 by group of Milwaukee men, whose main purpose is to provide a positive outlet for the youth, offering mentoring and recreational entertainment activities, while strengthening life skills such as self-discipline, personal responsibility, and integrity. These wonderful young men showed our students what they could be capable of, if they live a health lifestyle! Interested in what they did? See the video below. A big shout out to our PTO, whose financial support allowed us to provide this outstanding assembly today!

Updates & Reminders
Why School Attendance Is Important
Your child’s daily, on-time attendance is critical to their success in school. There are many studies that link attendance to success in school. For more information, check out this great website http://absencesaddup.org/
Looking To Support A "Souper" Good Cause?
The Menomonee Falls Art Department will harness the power of soup and combine it with the influence of art at its Empty Bowls Soup Dinner fundraiser for the Falls Food Pantry from 5 to 7:30 pm, February 9th at the High School cafeteria. Dinner of soup, bread, water, and ceramic bowl is available for a $10 donation. Tickets are available at the door or from any District Art Teacher. The event will have different soups donated by Bakers Square and bread donated by Pepperidge Farm. Art students from throughout the district created the ceramic bowls that will be available as a keepsake of the event. Empty Bowls is an international project to fight hunger. The basic idea for Empty Bowls is simple; serve a simple meal of soup and bread. Guests choose a bowl to keep as a reminder that there are always empty bowls in the world. It’s the most festive soup line imaginable, and 100% of the funds raised go to the Falls Area Food Pantry. Tickets will be available the night of the event at the café entrance or contact Mr. Elliott at elliqui@sdmfschools.org.
