The sign-up for volunteering February through May will be at the PTA Pancake Breakfast on January 30th. Washington dads, please bring your calendars!! After the breakfast, there will be a chance to sign-up electronically for any remaining slots.

Washington will celebrate Valentine's Day on Friday, February 12th with classroom parties. The morning kindergarten party will occur at 10:45am; all other parties will occur at 2:30pm. Volunteers will be allowed to go to classrooms at 2:15pm for set-up.

Students may bring Valentine cards to distribute to classmates. Please make sure your child brings a Valentine for every child in the class. Valentines may not include candy. Children will not be allowed to distribute any Valentine that includes food. Valentines with stickers, pencils or other small non-edible items are allowed.

Students will enjoy treats at the party that parent volunteers have planned in collaboration with the classroom teacher.

PTA Family Fun Nights are a HUGE Success!

Thanks to the PTA, especially VP Wendi Viola, for the fantastic Family Fun nights! There was a huge turnout for the December roller skating event, and the January Home Depot night was a full house. Students and parents really enjoyed building and painting together.

Save the Date - PARCC Testing

Last year, there were two PARCC testing windows; this year there is only one. PARCC Testing for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at Washington will be April 12 through April 20. PARCC tests are given in mathematics and English Language Arts.

It's Cold Weather Scale Time!

Washington uses a Cold Weather Color Scale to serve as a guideline for dressing for the weather. These guidelines are enforced for recess grades ADK-3rd and highly encouraged for grades 4 & 5. If the feels-like temperature is below zero or there is heavy rain/snow, we have recess indoors. Otherwise, we like to give students time to play in the fresh air. Boots and snowpants are needed to play in snow. Please encourage your child to dress appropriately for the weather.

You can view the Cold Weather Scale on the Washington website under the Parents & Students heading or by clicking this link: Cold Weather Scale.

Thanks for ArtSmart, PTA!

Every month, our students enjoy an art enrichment lesson courtesy of the PTA ArtSmart program. Thanks ArtSmart volunteers! Enjoy these photos of Mrs. Kovarik's 3rd grade creating during ArtSmart.
