Stone Bank School
Reaching Out Newsletter ~ November 20, 2015
From The Principal
It's hard to believe Thanksgiving is next week. As I've been reflecting on the many things I'm thankful for, I'd like to share a few of them with all of you. I'm thankful for our students who come to school each day ready to learn. They are a daily reminder of why I chose this profession. I'm thankful for the teachers, secretarial, and support staff, who truly care about our students and their success. I'm thankful for our parent volunteers, big or small we appreciate the time you give to our school. I'm thankful for our parents. You trust our staff with your most important possession each day. Your support and partnership is truly appreciated.
I wish you and your families a happy, healthy and relaxing Thanksgiving.
Mrs. Davies
Just a few reminders:
It looks like winter will be making an appearance soon. Should the weather require school to be cancelled, parents will receive a Skylert message by phone and email. As a feeder to Arrowhead HS we follow their lead for closings. Therefore, if you check local TV stations or websites, look for Arrowhead to determine if we are closed during inclement weather.
Gold Star Standard Writers in Ms. Bolinski English
For each major writing assignment in English, Students may earn "Gold Star Standard." This standard is not just about a grade; rather, it focuses on something exemplary in the writer's performance or a major improvement in writing. In October, the following 8th grade students earned the honor of becoming Gold Star Standard Writing Legends:
Cole Gruncel, Marisa Heffern, Emma Kureck, Maggie Newman, Paul Novacek, Anna Oehmcke, Jessica Preisler, Taylor Smith, and Matthew Umhoefer
Congratulations!

2015 Peace Poster Contest
Every year 6th graders at Stone Bank School submit posters for the Stone Bank Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest. The goal of the contest is to encourage students to creatively express what peace means to them. It allows students to share their unique image of peace with others, so that we may all have greater tolerance and international understanding.
The Lions Club chooses a different theme as the focus for the posters each year, and students develop ideas and create their posters in art class. The 2015 theme was “Share Peace.” Contest winners at Stone Bank School this year included Isabel Kureck (1st place), Jack Zamiatala (2nd place), and Aidan Jacobsen (3rd place). Congratulations to these students and to all of the 6th graders for their thoughtful work on the peace posters.

From the Directors
For over thirty years, the Eighth grade class has performed for the community, establishing an awesome tradition. We believe involvement in the arts benefits people of all ages - whether in the audience, on stage or behind the scenes and we were thrilled to be working with such a talented group of students. Now that costumes have been packed away and the set dismantled, I still find myself humming the opening number “Alice in Wonderland, how do you get to wonderland…”
“Alice in Wonderland” was wonderful. Kudos to all who were involved. You truly raised the “standard to outstanding.”
Mr. Ktorides and Mrs. Wilson
I would like to thank all students who participated in the creation of “hats” for The Mad Hatter competition. They were all very creative and we have a treat for all who participated. Please stop in the office and pick up your treat and your creative hats. Student Council appreciates your participation.
Winter Concert
Remember to save the dates for the children's winter concerts. There will be two performances for the 5K-4th graders at 12:45pm and 6:00pm on Tuesday, December 8th. Fifth grade singers, 5th-8th grade bands, and the middle school choir is on Tuesday, December 15th at 7:30pm. Please note the times as they have changed from previous publications.
Thank You
We would like to thank Lance Corporal Grover Castien, United States Marine Corp for his service to our country and for speaking at our Veteran’s Day Program. Mr. Castien is active with the Stone Bank Lions Club and has lent a helping hand to our Student Council and Mr. Lyon’s 5th grade classes to support our programs. I would also like to thank all of the students who took time to fill out a star for our Veteran’s Wall. We have much to be thankful for.
