Principal Taylor's Sunday Reminders for the week of September 18.

Good Evening Winston Churchill Families!

This is Principal Taylor, and here are your announcements for the week of September 18th. Students are reminded that this week we will be having student school photos taken on Monday for 9th grade, Tuesday for 10th grade, and Wednesday for 11th grade. Students will also receive their ID cards at that time.

This Tuesday, parents, students and staff are invited to the first PTSA meeting of the year. The meeting is virtual and the links are available in the weekly email. Along with PTSA planning and business there will be a Q and A with school officials to discuss the start of the year and other burning questions and feedback.

We want to invite everyone out to the Wootton football game this Friday - the SGA has called for a Black-out, so wear Black to show your spirit. We know that safety and security at Football games is a concern for everyone, and the Churchill Athletic Department wants to thank our students and fans for keeping our games safe and positive. Keep making sure you cheer positively, let the coaches coach, the players play and the officials make the calls. A few reminders for our Bulldog fans - All tickets must be purchased through the Go Fan app. No tobacco, vape, alcohol or drugs are allowed on school property at any time. Football games take about 2 hours - so plan on picking up your student by 9 pm. All pick-ups will be in the bus loop or main parking lot. No vehicles will be allowed in the stadium parking lot before or after the game to help us maintain traffic safety. Working together we can have a fun and safe night.

We want to send out a big Congratulations to our 18 Winston Churchill students who qualified as National Merit Semi-Finalists. You can find their names in our student recognition section of the weekly email.

Are you getting excited for Homecoming! This year's Homecoming Game will occur at the Oct 7 football game and the dance is on Saturday Night, October 8 in the school cafeteria. For all of the information on purchasing tickets, times and themes, check out the SGA section of the weekly email.

We have linked the parent drop-off and pick-up information, and we want to remind all of our families that we need to ensure the safety of our students during drop-off and pick-up times. We have had several recent incidents of inappropriate behavior and dangerous, aggressive driving. Please follow the traffic directions and allow yourself plenty of time to avoid dangerous behaviors. Only by working together can we ensure the safety of our community.

Also in this week’s email communication: check out the latest updates from the SGA and athletics program, some great SSL opportunities, an important video about signing up for AP testing, and reminders and events from the Counseling Services Department, along with so much more. All of our communications, and the most up to date information, will also be shared on the Churchill School Canvas tile. All of our Churchill Bulldogs are reminded that they have the power to make it a great day. Please have a wonderful evening.

WCHS Updated traffic and drop-off and pick up zones

Important Reminders - We strongly recommend that you plan to drop off your student(s) before 7:30 and pick them up after 2:40. Traffic congestion can be bad, especially as we head into colder weather and rainy or inclement weather. Please do not drop off your student in traffic on Gainsborough, Tuckerman or Victory - as this can lead to unsafe conditions. MPD traffic enforcement will be out to enforce safe driving and laws.

Visitor Parking

We ask our visitors to use the NEW Visitor parking lot by the flagpole near the main entrance. Please do not park in the other lots as they are designated and assigned to specific staff and students.

Student Parking

Student parking is limited to seniors that have been approved for and picked up a parking permit. School permitted areas, which require the parking permit, include both the school lots and the surrounding streets. Any student who parks in the school lot or on the surrounding streets without an approved permit displayed may be subject to ticketing or towing. • Do not come to school if sick. With COVID cases and variants still occurring, it is important to not report to school if your student has any signs of illness. In addition to the standard COVID symptoms (cough, fever, loss of taste and smell), signs of illness include: sore or scratchy throat, running nose, headache, chills and body aches. If your child has any of these symptoms, please keep them home until it can be confirmed they do not have COVID-19.

  • Wear an enhanced mask/face covering. All students and staff will be allowed to choose whether to wear a mask while in school. If you have concerns about exposure or immune levels, we recommend to wear a mask. In some cases, students returning from quarantine will be required to wear masks for certain periods. Masks will continue to be available on-site for those that need them.

  • Practice good hand and health hygiene. Wash hands frequently with soap and water, use hand sanitizer when soap and water is unavailable. Do not cough or sneeze around others or into your hands. Dispose of any tissue or items used for cough, sneezing or nasal use.

  • Vaccinate, and also get a Booster if you can. DHHS has now approved boosters for age 5 and up. You can find out more at the DHHS Vaccination Website:
