Kids Can Cook!

Middle School cooking contest now open!

This year's theme: Heart Healthy Snacks and Appetizers

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s that time of year again! It is the 4th Annual Middle School Cooking Contest! The theme for this year's event is "Heart Healthy Snacks and Appetizers.”

Does your middle school student have a culinary creative streak? Or a penchant for eating well? They should put on their chef hats and get to cooking!

To participate, students should create a heart-healthy dessert and submit it using the attached recipe form. Forms are also available in both middle school offices. The deadline for submitting recipes is Friday, April 17.

Twenty finalists will compete on Wednesday, May 13, in the Liberty school kitchen beginning at 2 PM where they will prepare their recipes (transportation to is left to families). Tasting and judging will take place during this time followed by a public reception and awarding of prizes from 4:00 - 4:30 p.m. Students do not need to buy or bring any ingredients or supplies to the contest. All of this will be provided by Sodexo!

Tips to be a finalist:

We are looking for Heart Healthy Recipes so try for recipes that don’t have too much fat content (specifically saturated fats), or sugars.

  • Be original and creative,
  • Don’t do recipes that are too easy or too complicated, and
  • You can get them from a cookbook or the internet!
