This week in school
Here's the headlines
Feeling hot hot hot

Wave of Hope
What a busy 'outdoors is the new indoors' kind of week!
The school field - a magical place. Once the children gain access to it in the Summer months, they have more room to run and use up their energy. The softer surface invites different games to be played and the heat calms them - everyone is a little happier when they are warm and comfortable!
Uniform - polite reminder
The sun also brings out a different wardrobe which can be problematic for us at school. May we please remind you that children do need to wear socks and substantial footwear for protection. They also need a hat, a water bottle and long lasting sun cream to be applied before school.
The girls look great in their Summer dresses, but please remember to tie their hair back and remove their nail polish and jewellery.
The boys look smart in their shorts but please remember that footwear does need to be black.
Finally all children must wear proper PE kit for PE lessons - football kits are not allowed unless it is an appropriate non-uniform day.

Thank you for your continued support - have a really lovely weekend.

Stars
This week we have looked at ‘Ourselves’ and talked about our families. Thank you to everyone who shared photos of their family and baby photos on Tapestry. The children enjoyed sharing them with their friends. We have enjoyed the Funnybones stories by Janet and Allen Ahlberg and drawn our own skeletons. We enjoyed drawing around our bodies with chalk and talking about the names of our different body parts. In maths we have practised recognising numerals and collecting amounts to match the numeral. In phonics we have looked at body percussion and revised Phase 2 Set 2 sounds – m, n, d and i.
FS/Y1
This half term our topic is called "Say Cheese" and is all about photographs, images and textiles. We have created a photo booth in the classroom and the children are enjoying developing their ICT skills by taking photos of each other. We have started looking at the book Halibut Jackson and have based some of our writing around this as well as designing suits for the main character. We have created self portraits and also some brilliant art based on the story of Jesus calming the storm. We have written some fantastic stories inspired by pictures and in maths we have been recapping our calculation skills. In worship, we have been talking about caring for the environment and the poorest people in our world. We have created our Wave of Hope to add to the national one being created for the G7 summit.
We've enjoyed the lovely weather. We are outside a lot of the time so please remember to send your child to school with a hat, a water bottle. and with sun cream already applied.
Year 2
What a super start we have had to the final half term of the year! We began reading our latest class text written by Jeremy Strong – Pirate School (Just a bit of wind) and have created ‘Wanted’ posters with a detailed character description of the main character, Patagonia Clatterbottom. In Maths, we have measured in centimetres and metres as well as comparing and ordering lengths and solving related measure problems. We have recapped the British Isles in Geography and used atlases to find and label them. We also recapped compass directions and used these to describe their position. In worship this week, the children have learnt about the G7 summit and contributed to the ‘Wave of Hope’ by including their own messages of what they believe will make a better world.
Year 3
Year 4
In English, we have been showing off our Year 4 writing skills in a narrative about escaping Pompeii in A.D. 79. Hopefully the children will have us on the edge of our seats with excitement with their plots and language. During maths, we have been folding shapes, investigating lines of symmetry in 2D shapes as well as fine tuning our times tables' skills.
Great fun was had by all during athletics in P.E. Hurdling was definitely a favourite event this week as we practised different techniques. In French, we were practising asking and answering questions about the weather using our own board games. We offered thoughtful responses about how right and wrong is portrayed in different religions before creating our own set of Commandments. This flavour of work shows what a busy week it has been again.
Year 5/6
Firstly, a very well done to year 5 and 6 on their very impressive return to school this week. We can really see their maturity levels growing!
In our English lessons we have been creating free-form riddle poems that describe the 'supporting' creatures of our class text Holes. The metaphorical language we have seen is fantastic. Impressive work everyone. We then moved on to a grammar focus; looking at lots of different grammatical terminology. In Maths, we have been recapping our formal methods of the four operations, whilst answering many a different multi-step problem. In topic with have completed our country comparisons (Austin, Texas and York, North Yorkshire). Where would you prefer to live?
We then looked at the art of Esher, creating our very own tessellating yellow spotted Lizard art.
A busy and hot but enjoyable week! Let's have many more of these!
