Great News for Our School and Community - Resolution with PG&E!

From the Office of Dr. Don Austin, Superintendent of Schools -

February 12, 2021

PAUSD is pleased to announce a successful resolution to negotiations with PG&E over a proposed easement at the Cubberley site. We sincerely appreciate the mobilization of our community, including 3,500 petition signatures and powerful comments. Ultimately, PG&E listened to our position and changed course in the interest of our district and those served at Cubberley.

PG&E Vice President of Gas Transmission Distribution Construction, Peter Kenny, was instrumental in the process and offered the following statement, “PG&E is committed to providing safe and reliable natural gas service to its customers. After gaining a better understanding of the Palo Alto Unified School District perspective, we reached mutual agreement to seek an alternative location for PG&E’s gas transmission pipeline inspection project. We appreciate their partnership and look forward to continued collaboration in the future.

The agreement to terminate pursuit of property at the Cubberley site resolves the issue fully and allows PAUSD to focus fully on the work of returning students to in-person instruction.

Big picture

Special Olympics Virtual Event

Usually this is the time of year that we hold our Young Athletes - Special Olympics event at Greendell School. The children love our school wide field day and we have missed having this fun event. So, we were really happy to hear that our students can participate in a virtual Special Olympics event!

We are excited to offer our first Special Olympics Event of the year, virtually. Instead of offering just a single long distance running or walking event 5K, we are taking that idea to the next level! As a group, we are going to attempt to walk the distance of California...that is 945 Miles!!!

It will be a month-long cumulative event, starting January 25th and running through February 26th. We will have a virtual awards ceremony for everyone who participates on March 5th. All you have to do to join is go for a walk, run or bike, track your mileage and submit it to the Google Form. Updates will be given weekly with our progress. Want more information? All the information can be found here: California Challenge: Run, Walk and Bike California.

Submit your miles using this Google Form beginning January 25th!
