2nd Semester Kicks Off!

Center Students return this week and we are all one big happy family inside the main building. The annex is officially closed for student use and everyone is adjusting quite well in their new digs. I have to say, it is nice having everyone in one building. It creates more energy and more excitement!

Report cards (available online) are available on PASS as of today. If you have any trouble accessing the online report card, please contact the guidance department @ 440.572.7088.

Parents of 7th grade students will also see that a $5 fee for the Design and Model course has been added. This fee was to originally have been assessed at the beginning of the school year. It does not affect the access of your child's PASS account.

Parents Still Wanted!

As a father of a current 7th grader, I find that he, at times, can be distant and seclude himself when we are all hanging around the house in the evening. My first take is that he is growing older and more independent and wants to spend less time around his parents. However, research shows that 'Tweens' (9-13 year olds) want to spend more time with their parents even though they may act the opposite way. Consider these ideas for enjoying time together:

  • Look for activities to do side by side. Perhaps try a new recipe in the kitchen, a Sudoku Puzzle or play chess or checkers.
  • Build in daily "solo time"- just you and your tween. Perhaps a walk after dinner or a chat before bed.
  • Make a date. Once a month or so, go to a movie, museum or anything else that appeals to the two of you.

Life with my family is CRAZY (as I'm sure yours is!)- coaching two of my kids' basketball teams, church, family events, work, personal time- all of which make it difficult to find that one-on-one time. But, it is all so important.

Construction Update on SMS

Future Strongsville Middle School teachers had a chance to walk through the new building on Monday, Dec 21. It is amazing how much progress is being made! The auditorium, cafeteria and gym will be spacious and aesthetically pleasing. The drywall in the classrooms are in the process of being hung and finished as well as lights beginning to be installed. The windows were just installed on the front of the building. The new middle school is really beginning to take shape.

Student Spotlight

Aleah Hedinger, a 7th grade Star team student, is the first Student Spotlight of 2016. Aleah is a Girl Scout currently working towards earning her Silver Award. As part of her award service project, Aleah is making dog beds for a local shelter, and continues to do community service with her troop, including planting flowers for a local hospice. In May, the girls will be going to New York City for a troop field trip! When she's not active with Girl Scouts, Aleah enjoys riding her bike and playing basketball outside with her friends. Aleah's favorite subject at Center is Math, but she loves all of her classes equally. When asked her favorite thing about Center, Aleah said that she enjoys being able to see all of her friends. In the future, Aleah would like to pursue a career in Creative Writing. The sky is the limit, Aleah!
