The Mata Memo

November 2, 2021

Principal's Message

Greetings Mata Families!

Happy November! Today, in many Latin American countries, Dia de Muertos/Day of the Dead is being celebrated. The Day of the Dead originated several thousand years ago with the Aztec, Toltec, and other Nahua people. The dead were still members of the community, kept alive in memory and spirit. Students in some of our classes worked on cultural projects and learned about this celebration. Check out the pictures below.

Please remember that Friday, November 5th is Picture Day. Forms were sent home with students last week. You may order online at code EDM22. If you do order online, please bring your confirmation number to school. Also, only the correct change will be accepted for payment.

Additionally, if you know someone who is interested or if your child has a sibling that wants to attend Mata Montessori, the application window is open! Please tell them to apply. You may contact the main office if you have any questions.

Dia de los Muertos - The Day of the Dead

Digging for Fossils

Ms. Miner's class conducted a culminating activity for their study of the Timeline of Life. It ended with the students becoming Paleontologists for the day. They were able to dig for different rock specimens, shells and even fossils! They used tools to extract the fossils and brushes to clear off the soil. They were so excited when they discovered dinosaur skeletons and were able to take them home! They really enjoyed digging in the different soil layers and getting their hands dirty!!!

Food Drive

Hello Mata Eagles!

The middle school students are hosting a food drive from October 18 until November 17th and we need your help! Our goal is to collect 2,000 pounds of canned goods to donate to the North Texas Food Bank. The most needed items are cans of peanut butter, tuna fish, canned fruit, shelf-stable milk, canned chicken, and canned vegetables. So please donate what you can! Donation boxes will be located by the cafeteria, library, office, and middle school.
