A Message from Proud Principal, Laura Clark

What a wonderful week we've had at Parsons! I had such a sense of PRIDE seeing parents coming and going, from early in the morning until late at night, to meet with their child's teacher. The saying is, "Strong Communities, Build Strong Schools and Strong Schools, Build Strong Communities" and I have to say I think we have this STRONG commitment here at our school.

Parent involvement is not just volunteering in your child's classroom. That's one way to help-but research shows that supporting your child's education at home is even more important. Take it from me, the working mom, I do not have time to volunteer at my child's school. Instead, parents can look at completed work, read weekly newsletters, and look over their child's homework to check their understanding.

Each night when my kiddos came home from school, I would ask them specific questions like, "What did you do as a reader, or writer, today at school?", "What did you learn in Social Studies/Science? Is there anything you would like to know more about?", and "How were you helpful today? How was someone kind or helpful to you?". These questions require your child to give more specific information. If I asked, "How was you day at school?", I would get, "Fine" and as a working mom I wanted to hear more about their day than just "fine". When we talk about school at home, it shows our child how much we value his/her education.

Our students in grades 1-5 are finishing up their 9 week Interim District Assessments. These assessments are so important because they allow us to see if each student is gaining proficiency of the grade level AKS/standards. Our teachers will begin analyzing their classroom assessment data to see which students need more opportunities for teaching/learning of specific standards. It will also allow them to see which standards have been mastered. Be sure to take a look at your child's grades in the portal in the next week because teachers will be entering the District Assessment grades. If you have any questions, reach out to your child's teacher and they will be happy to answer any questions.

Don't forget next week is Red Ribbon Week where we will be celebrating healthy choices and drug prevention. Each day has a fun theme for our students to get involved in.

Thank you for all you do to make our school the BEST!

Proud to be your Principal,

Mrs. Clark

Parsons' Students Showed Up with BIG Numbers for Great Days of Service

Students in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade showed up with some BIG numbers this week. Students collected TWO THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED NINETY EIGHT items to donate to the local food bank. Yep, that's right, 2,198 items! On Wednesday we did not think we were going to meet our goal and beat our number from last year BUT the items came in and we surpassed our number from year by about 700 items. I am so proud of our students! Parsons students continue to show how important it is to have PRIDE in our community by serving and caring for others. A special thank you to our student council representatives for all they have done. They made posters, presented on the morning announcements and collected & counted items each day. It was so awesome to see our student leaders in action. We can't forget the parents...Thank you parents for showing your kiddos the importance of doing for others.

Afternoon Transportation

All transportation changes must be made in writing.Whenever you need to make a change to your child's afternoon transportation plan, please complete an Afternoon Transportation Change Form, which can be found here or on our school's website, and send it in to your child's teacher. We will utilize this form to create the appropriate afternoon transportation pass. Please remember the GCPS Bus Rule: No passes will be issued for play dates, birthdays, weekend sleepovers, etc. For security reasons we DO NOT accept transportation changes through phone calls or emails.

New! RBES Parent Survey in Parent Portal

Yes, this is the second parent survey this year. This survey is very important and we need you!

Great things are happening at Parsons. This survey gives us the opportunity to show our Parsons Pride and share our perception of all the wonderful things our school community is doing for our students. Our school success is evidence of the power collaboration among stakeholders...because we ALL work together, Parsons' students are 'Achieving and Believing'!

Each year, GCPS gives parents the opportunity to complete a survey about their child's school. This survey is available through the parent portal. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey by November 22, 2019. The results are utilized as part of our school evaluation at the county level and we appreciate your input. If you do not have access to the parent portal, you can come to the school and complete the survey by picking up a paper copy in the front office. Thank you in advance for completing this important task. Please visit the parent portal to begin the survey.
