NWEA MAP Testing
Administrators will create all test sessions and will provide a testing schedule for your building. At the bottom of this newsletter are screenshot directions and also a short video for teachers to show you how to pull up and administer a saved test session. Principals will also review these directions with your building prior to testing. There have been some wonderful teacher-friendly updates to MAP over the summer, and those will be released to all of you within the next two weeks prior to testing.

Our Featured East Aurora D131 Teacher
District 131 Teachers Working It Every Day!
She integrates technology into her teaching in order to provide individualized pathways in mathematics. In this photo, you can see one of our children on Dreambox, completing a math mission while fellow students finish their beginning-of-year math assessment. Principal Gibson says, "Ms. Baker-Val also connects the curriculum to student experiences. This makes her teaching relevant in the classroom for our students." We are proud to share Ms. Baker-Val's story with all of you. Thank you for all that you do!
Cool MAP Tool of the Month: The Grade Level Report
To Access this Report:
1. Log into your MAP account
2. Click "View Reports" and then "MAP Growth Reports" on the left-hand side of your screen.
3. Scroll down to where it says "Grade Reports" and click.
4. You will want to set your term for "Winter 2018-2019" if you want to see how students ended last year. Once we finish MAP testing at the end of September, you will then change the term to say "Fall 2019-2020."
5. Select all applicable drop-downs--including the grade, and then Reading and Math.
6. To see the report sorted from lowest RIT to highest RIT, click the button that says "Sort Order--Test RIT." It is located on the right hand side of Report Options.
7. Create PDF to see your report!
How is this report helpful?
- This report is a grade-level view of all students. If you only want to see a particular group you work with, you can highlight their names in this report. This report is especially beneficial for middle and high school teachers who see a large number of children on a daily basis.
- The report can help you group students so that you know who to target for additional instruction or enrichment.
- The report can also provide overall and sub-goal RIT scores to look up in the Learning Continuum for any small group instruction you may want to provide. More on the Learning Continuum coming next edition!
MTSS Framework Updates
- This year, MAP will be used as the universal screener to place students into tiered intervention. Students in the 5th-15th percentile are eligible for Tier 3 services. Students in the 16th-25th percentile are eligible for Tier 2 services.
- Interventionists will complete running records for all eligible students using the F&P Baseline Assessment System (BAS) kits. After this data is collected, any adjustments to tiers will be made.
- Progress monitoring will occur every 2 weeks for all students seeing an interventionist. Interventionists will record their progress monitoring progress in an Excel spreadsheet that will be accessible to the building principal, Mr. Wieher, and Dr. Dallacqua for review.
- Data cycles will close every 8 weeks. At that time, the interventionists will complete another running record and make recommendations on the Excel spreadsheet for next steps in the intervention cycle.
The middle school interventionist meeting is forthcoming. Thank you all for your patience and support as we create a solid MTSS Framework for the children of District 131!

What are the Directions for Administering the MAP Test?
Below are step-by-step instructions for accessing a saved test session. There is also a video link if you prefer to look at a video for accessing instructions. These instructions will be emailed prior to testing for you to view, but I also wanted to include them below for your viewing pleasure:
Step 1: Log into MAP at https://teach.mapnwea.org
Step 2: Select "Manage Test Sessions" on the left-hand side of your screen.
Step 3: "Show" you Saved Test Sessions
Step 4: Click the Subject and "Test Now"
After you press “Show,” the saved sessions for your class will appear. Your administrator will share with you what name to type in the box that says "Created By." You will select whichever session you are testing for on that day. For this example, let's say you are testing math first. Therefore, you would click the bubble that has math in the title, and then select “Test Now.”
Step 5: Write the Test Session Name and Password on Your Board
All of your students will appear on the left-hand side. The test session name and password will appear above all of your student names. Please write the test session name and password on your board. Students will need to enter this information into their computers. Note that there will also be a “proctor pin," and this is another number on the upper right-hand side of the screen. This number is what you will enter if a student is clicking too quickly through the test. **Remember, the proctor pin is NOT the password for the test session.**
Step 6: Help your Students Prepare Their Computers
-Enter the Test Session Name and Password that you have written on your board
-Click on their name and press "Next"
-Click "Yes" to confirm that their information is correct
Once all of your students complete these steps, you can press the blue "Confirm" button on your screen to start the test on your student computers. Students will see a blue button that says "Start Test" that they need to press in order to begin.
Step 7: End Your Testing Session
