California Coastal Cleanup Day

Saturday, Sep. 21st 2013 at 9am-12pm

1000 Great Hwy

San Francisco, CA

In San Francisco alone, 3,500 volunteers collected over 10,000 pounds of debris—from our shorelines, parks, and neighborhoods. Within the Golden Gate National Parks—including 20 sites across Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo counties—over 3,100 volunteers scoured our spectacular coastline, collecting nearly 4,400 lbs of debris, helping to keep our parklands pristine and healthy.

Audience: Adults, Educators, Elementary School Students, Families, Groups, High School Students, Middle School Students, Seniors, Volunteers

Location: Baker Beach, China Beach, Crissy Field, Fort Funston, Lands End, Marin County, Ocean Beach, Presidio of San Francisco, San Francisco, San Mateo County

Event Type: Volunteer

Let's make trash extinct! Pitch in for California Coastal Cleanup Day and lend a hand throughout the Golden Gate National Parks and beyond! Cleanup and restoration activities will be happening in San Francisco, Marin, and Pacifica. Together we can keep our parks, neighborhoods, and shorelines clean, safe, and healthy for everyone.

Limit waste by bringing your own reusable supplies (bags, bucket, gloves, water bottle). We will also have supplies available.

Last year over 50% of the debris collected was diverted from the landfill. Recology, our event partner, further supports our conservation goals by making sure that everything you collect is separated and as much as possible is diverted from the landfill. Not only are the standard materials recycled—i.e. cans, bottles, hard plastic, etc.—but also scrap wood, metal, sheet rock, cement, sand and brick. Thank You Recology!

The Golden Gate National Parks Volunteer Program is a cooperative parkwide effort of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, the National Park Service, and the Presidio Trust.
