Renewable energy sources

Tidal Power

Tidal power is a kind of hydro power that converts the energy of tides into power like electricity. There are two tidal generating methods: the tidal stream generator and the tidal barrage.

Wave power holds the most promise of all, since wave power can be captured anywhere on the ocean. We think that the tidal stream generator is the most efficient way to collect energy as its seas are very violent.

Solar Power

Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electrical energy and is generated using photo voltaic cell technology. Solar power is a convenient and efficient way to produce energy for Lorne and they could be installed on the rooftops of the houses, or we could build a solar farm like this one.

Wind Power

Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of power. The wind pushes the turbines causing it to turn, this rotation pushes on a series of spinning mechanisms inside the turbine, which in turn, spins the generator to generate electricity. Wind energy is a good energy source for Lorne as the weather there is very windy, making big waves for surfers, which is good for generating electricity from tidal power.

And geothermal power if there are any complaints about any of our renewable energy sources that you are not happy with. Especially for wind or tidal power if it proves to have no environmental harm and that it doesn't harm the animals as well.

The two types of tidal generating methods we could use for Lorne

Like we typed,the two tidal generating methods are the tidal stream generator and the tidal barrage.

The tidal stream generator uses the kinetic energy of the water to push the turbines like the way a wind turbine uses the wind to power the turbines.

The tidal barrage collects water from high tides until there is enough potential energy to generate power. Then, during low tides, they release the turbines to force the water out. We chose tidal power because it is the most predictable of all renewable energy sources like solar and wind energy.

As you can see in this picture, there are such things as floating wind farms. These wind farms are very sturdy and will probably not tip over from the intense wind out in the sea.

How much it would cost

It would cost the whole village about 80 million dollars for the solar farm, 1.3 million to 2.2 million dollars for a wind farm, and 4 million for a tidal power source. Geothermal wells take about 4 million dollars each to drill.
