MCS Update
November 1, 2021
Hello, MCS Families and Friends!
THANK YOU also to Ron and Lise Leach for year two of Halloween Alley!

A note from Emma...
Some of my duties include the following: provide confidential mental health services to students when/as needed, connect students and families to resources and support services outside of MCS, assist in identifying barriers to learning for individual students, crisis intervention, and also teach Social Emotional Learning (SEL) once a week in all three classrooms. In the 3-5, and 6-8, we started the school learning about the big three - Anger, Sadness, and Worry focusing on the healthy activities we can do to help us move through challenging emotions when we experience them. Currently, we are launching a school-wide kindness campaign. Students will be exploring and learning about how to practice kindness to themselves and others. Understanding complex concepts like compassion, empathy, and learning how to be kind towards ourselves and others when any of the big three emotions are present. The 6-8 grade will be taking on a leadership role and planning an activity during crew time for the whole school to participate in, while Karly drums up the artistic genius of your incredible kids, tapping into kindness through art. I hope that the start of winter finds you all well, safe, and happy. If you have any questions, concerns, or want to say hi, please reach out. Families can contact me via text message at 970-404-0017 and email at ebielski@gunnisonschools.net.
SEL fun fact: Did you know that writing down three things they are grateful for every day for 21 days can rewire the brain to experience more happiness? What are you thankful for today?
